Santa Rosa De Lima Cartel
The Santa Rosa de Lima Cartel ( es, Cártel de Santa Rosa de Lima) or CSRL is a Mexican criminal organization from the state of Guanajuato. Founded in 2014, it was initially headed by "The Sledgehammer". They mainly earn their income from oil theft. In June 2020, it was reported that state government raids and turf wars with the Jalisco New Generation Cartel resulted in the Santa Rosa de Lima losing much of their territories in Guanajuato, Querétaro and Hidalgo and all of their "soldiers." However, cartel members still maintain a small presence in certain municipalities of Guanajuato, such as Villagrán, though they are not active in organized crime. Santa Rosa commonly known as Santa Rosa de Lima is a town located in the municipality of Villagrán, in the Mexican state of Guanajuato. Location and demography Santa Rosa de Lima is located in the northeast of the municipal territory of Villagrán, almost in the limits with the municipality of Celaya and the municipality of Santa Cruz de Juventino Rosas. It is located approximately one kilometer south of the Mexican Federal Highway 45D, the main toll road in the region that leads to Celaya to the east and Salamanca to the west. Villagrán is a Mexican city (and municipality) located in the state of Guanajuato. With an area of 125.4 square kilometres, Villagrán accounts for 0.41% of the surface of the state. Salamanca Nightclub Shooting
On 9 March 2019, a mass shooting occurred in La Playa Men's Club, a nightclub in Salamanca, Guanajuato, Mexico. Fifteen people were killed, and five to seven people were injured. Fourteen victims were later identified as Jalisco New Generation Cartel members. Witnesses described the attackers as a group of armed men who arrived in three vans. The Mexican government later alleged that the attackers were part of the Santa Rosa de Lima Cartel and announced that they had identified several individual attackers. Five days before the shooting took place, an operation was launched by the Mexican government to crack down on this cartel. José Antonio Yépez Ortiz, known as El Marro, The Sledgehammer and The Brown, is a Mexican suspected drug trafficker and huachicolero (fuel thief). Between 2017 and 2020, he served as the leader of the Santa Rosa de Lima Cartel (CSRL), a criminal group based in Guanajuato, Mexico. He was wanted by the Government of Mexico for his active participation in fuel theft.
