Santa Maria Assunta, Calvi Dell'Umbria
Santa Maria Assunta is the main Roman Catholic church, located on Via Roma (once Via Sabina) near the Porta Ternana in the town of Calvi dell'Umbria, province of Terni, region of Umbria, Italy. The church was initially built in the second half of the 13th century. The original facade faced the gateway into town, and now represents the Gothic-style mullioned windows along Via Roma. in the 1580s, the bell tower was erected. The present layout derives from an expansion during 1620–1659; this gave the church a single long nave with five side chapels. The choir in the apse. The organ derives from the 18th-century. The main altarpiece depicts the ''Madonna of the Assumption and San Pancrazio'' (1737) by Salvatore Pierella. Gothic Architecture
Gothic architecture (or pointed architecture) is an architectural style that was prevalent in Europe from the late 12th to the 16th century, during the High and Late Middle Ages, surviving into the 17th and 18th centuries in some areas. Giuseppe Cesari (14 February 1568 – 3 July 1640) was an Italian Mannerist painter, also named Il Giuseppino and called ''Cavaliere d'Arpino'', because he was created ''Cavaliere di Cristo'' by his patron Pope Clement VIII. He was much patronized in Rome by both Clement and Sixtus V. He was the chief of the studio in which Caravaggio trained upon the younger painter's arrival in Rome. Biography Cesari's father, Muzio Cesari, had been a native of Arpino, but Giuseppe himself was born in Rome. Here, he was apprenticed to Niccolò Pomarancio. Vincenzo Manenti (also known as Vincenzio Manenti) (c. 1600–1674) was an Italian painter of the Baroque period. He was born, worked and died in Canemorto (now Orvinio) in the region of Sabina and province of Rieti where he had been first a pupil of his father, Ascanio Manenti, but then apprenticed with Giuseppe Cesari and Domenichino.
