Santa Maria A Vico, Province Of Teramo
Santa Maria a Vico is a Romanesque-style, Roman Catholic church located near the town of Sant’Omero, province of Teramo, region of Abruzzo, Italy. History Tradition holds the church was built before the year 1000, atop the remains of a pagan temple dedicated to Hercules. It was rebuilt in Romanesque style. The rectangular layout is divided into three naves; the central one ends in a rounded apse. Arches with pillars with square capitals separate the naves. The windows are small except for the round window in the main façade. In 1300, the bell tower was built. The interior houses 14th-century frescoes, in poor state of conservation, depicting an ''Enthroned Madonna and Child'', an ''Annunciation'', another ''Madonna with Child'', a half-length ''Blessing Christ inside a clypeus (shield)'', and a ''Saint John the Evangelist''. Corropoli (locally ''Currùppië'') is a town and ''comune'' in Teramo province in the Abruzzo region of eastern Italy. In recent years the town has had a population of just under 4000 individuals. Civitella del Tronto () is a town and ''comune'' in the province of Teramo, within the Abruzzo region of central Italy. It is in the Gran Sasso e Monti della Laga National Park. History The origins of Civitella are unknown, though in the area have been found traces of human presence as early as the Neolithic and Upper Palaeolithic ages. The current town is believed to lie on the former Beregra, a town of the Piceni Italic tribe. It is first mentioned in the 10th-11th centuries, as a walled town; in the 13th century it was part of the Kingdom of Naples, having a special importance as it was on the boundaries with the Papal States. In 1557 it was besieged by French troops, but in vain.
