Sant'Elena (island)
Sant'Elena is an island of Venice. It lies at the eastern tip of the main island group and forms part of sestiere (Venice), sestiere of Castello, Venice, Castello. The original island was separated by an arm of the Venetian Lagoon from Venice itself, and was centred on the Church of Sant'Elena and its monastery, originally built in the twelfth century and rebuilt in the 15th. In the 1920s, the island was expanded to fill in the gap; it is linked to the rest of the city by three bridges. It includes the Rimembranze Park, a naval college and a football (soccer), football stadium, ''Stadio Pier Luigi Penzo'', in addition to residential areas and Venice Bienniale buildings. The belltower has a ring of 6 bells in B rung with the Veronese bellringing art. Sant'Elena, Rome
Sant'Elena or Sant'Elena fuori Porta Prenestina is a church in Rome (Italy), in the Prenestino-Labicano Quarter, facing on Via Casilina. History The church was built by Pope Pius X as a memorial of the 16th centenary of the Edict of Milan (313), when Roman Emperors Constantine I and Licinius acknowledged Christianity as a licit and lawful religion within the Empire; it was dedicated to Constantine's mother, Helena. The church – based on a design by the architect Giuseppe Palombi – was built between 1913 and 1914, opened to worship on 2 April 1914 and was consecrated on 17 September 1916. The church rises in the so-called ''Quarto di Sant'Elena'' ("Quarter of St. Helen"), mentioned into documents dating back to the last years of the 14th century. An act by notary A. Scambi dated 10 May 1379 refers to an eight-''rubbi'' (14,7 hectares) vineyard placed "''in quartum qui dicitur sancta Erina''". The prior of the cloister of Santa Maria Nova, on 15 October 1382, sol ...

Sant'Elena, Venice
Sant'Elena, also sometimes called ''Santa Lena'', is a Gothic-style, Roman Catholic church at the extreme east end of the sestiere of Castello in the City of Venice, Italy. History This site was once the island of Sant'Elena, which was not then accessible by foot from the city; it now represents the east end of Venice. The first chapel at this location was built by Augustinian monks in 1028 and dedicated to Saint Helene from Auxerre. By 1175, they had built a convent and hospital. In 1211, the body of Saint Helena of Constantinople was putatively transported to Venice from Constantinople by the monk Aicardo from this monastery. They added a chapel for her relics to the church. In 1407, the convent had fallen to ruin, and the complex was affiliated with the Olivetani order. In 1810, the church was deconsecrated under Napoleonic rule. The urn putatively containing St Helen's remains was supposedly hidden in the Basilica of San Pietro in Castello, and the Renaissance portal of ...
