Sant'Andrea Di Suasa
Sant'Andrea di Suasa is a hamlet of the municipality of Mondavio in the province of Pesaro-Urbino, Italy. The castle-village sits 265 metres above sea level, 23 km from the Adriatic coast and develops along the crest of a large hill to the left of the Cesano river. It is characterized by the mighty wall circuit still intact with a single arch entrance. Geography The village is located in the Marche countryside close to the coast, and more precisely in the Cesano valley which is divided between the provinces of Ancona and Pesaro and Urbino, placed in a hilly landscape with many international tourist destinations. Sant'Andrea della Valle is a minor basilica in the rione of Sant'Eustachio of the city of Rome, Italy. The basilica is the general seat for the religious order of the Theatines. It is located at Piazza Vidoni, at the intersection of Corso Vittorio Emanuele (facing facade) and Corso Rinascimento. Overview A church was initially planned when, in 1582, Donna Costanza Piccolomini d'Aragona, duchess of Amalfi and descendant of the family of Pope Pius II, bequeathed her palace and the adjacent church of San Sebastiano in central Rome to the Theatine order for construction of a new church. Since Amalfi's patron was Saint Andrew, the church was planned in his honor. The Basilica of Sant'Andrea is a Roman Catholic co-cathedral and minor basilica in Mantua, Lombardy (Italy). It is one of the major works of 15th-century Renaissance architecture in Northern Italy. Commissioned by Ludovico III Gonzaga, the church was begun in 1472 according to designs by Leon Battista Alberti on a site occupied by a Benedictine monastery, of which the bell tower (1414) remains. The building, however, was only finished 328 years later. Though later changes and expansions altered Alberti's design, the church is still considered to be one of Alberti's most complete works. It looms over the Piazza Mantegna. Architecture The façade, built abutting a pre-existing bell tower (1414), is based on the scheme of the ancient Arch of Trajan at Ancona. Sant'Andrea in Percussina is a ''frazione'' of San Casciano Val di Pesa in the Metropolitan City of Florence, Tuscany, Italy. This small, but long-established village is located between San Casciano Val di Pesa and Florence. The Basilica di Sant'Andrea is the church of a monastery in Vercelli, Piedmont, northern Italy, founded in 1219 by Cardinal Guala Bicchieri and completed in 1227. It represents an early example of Gothic architecture in Italy, inspired by Cistercian models and featuring Romanesque elements as well. History The basilica was built between 1219 and 1227 at the direction of Cardinal Guala Bicchieri, who had just returned from England where he had been papal legate. Bicchieri had received from King Henry III the perpetual rights to the income of St Andrew's Church, Chesterton, near Cambridge.
