Pieve di Sant’Ambrogio is a Romanesque-style, Roman Catholic parish church or pieve located in the neighborhood of Bazzano in Neviano degli Arduini in the region of Emilia Romagna, Italy. History A church at the site is documented since 920 and was documented in 1004 as a pieve, able to confer baptism. The church still has a sculpted octagonal baptismal font from that era. By the 12th century, the church had assumed the three-nave layout. Neviano degli Arduini (Parmigiano: ) is a ''comune'' (municipality) in the Province of Parma in the Italian region Emilia-Romagna, located about west of Bologna and about south of Parma. In the communal territory is the Romanesque '' Pieve di Sasso'', a national monument. This stone pieve (parish church) was built in the 11th century. Its reconstruction around 1080 is traditionally attributed to Matilda of Tuscany. It is a church with a nave and two aisles, built in rough stone. In the Middle Ages, a pieve (, ; la, plebe, link=no; plural ''pievi'') was a rural church with a baptistery, upon which other churches without baptisteries depended. The Italian word ''pieve'' is descended from Latin ''plebs'' which, after the expansion of Christianity in Italy, was applied to the community of baptized people.
