Sand Animation
Sand animation is the manipulation of sand to create animation. In performance art an artist creates a series of images using sand, a process which is achieved by applying sand to a surface and then rendering images by drawing lines and figures in the sand with one's hands. A sand animation performer will often use the aid of an overhead projector or lightbox (similar to one used by photographers to view Reversal film, translucent films). To make an animated film, sand is moved on a backlit or frontlit piece of glass to create each frame. History Techniques of animating with sand were pioneered by Caroline Leaf when she was an undergraduate art student at Harvard University in 1968. She created her first film, ''Sand, or Peter and the Wolf'' (1968), by dumping beach sand on a light box and manipulating the grains to build figures, textures and movement, frame by frame. Kseniya Simonova
Kseniya Simonova ( uk, Ксенія Симонова; married name: Kseniya Paskar, Ксенія Паскар` born 22 April 1985) is a Ukrainian performance artist who does sand animation, graphic design, illustration, cinema, and literature. She holds the title of Merited Artist of Ukraine and rose to prominence in 2009 after winning '' Ukraine's Got Talent''. She was the only act to receive two Golden Buzzers on two different "The Champions" series of the ''Got Talent'' franchise ('' America's Got Talent: The Champions'' and '' Britain's Got Talent: The Champions'', both in 2019). Early life Simonova was born in 1985, in Yevpatoria, a town on the Crimean peninsula in Ukraine, which was then a part of the Soviet Union. Alexandra Konofalskaya
Alexandra Konofalskaya (born June 11, 1986) is a sand animation artist. Born in Zhodino, Minsk Region, Belarus, Konofalskaya had always dreamt of stage, and, as a child, she attended dancing classes. Though love to drawing led Konofalskaya to Zhodino kids art school in 1996 (graduated in 2000, summa cum laude). Continuing to improve in arts, in 2004 Konofalskaya entered the Maxim Tank Belarusian State Pedagogical University, the faculty of folk culture. She graduated in 2009 as a specialist in arts and drafting, artistic handicrafts. Being a student, Konofalskaya took part in a number of exhibitions and creative projects. Besides, she also arranged several personal exhibitions and performances. In 2008 and 2009 Konofalskaya participated in an international action, Night of Museums, as the art director in the Belarusian National Arts Museum. The Academy Award for Best Animated Short Film is an award given by the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences (AMPAS) as part of the annual Academy Awards, or Oscars, since the 5th Academy Awards (with different names), covering the year 1931–32, to the present. From 1932 until 1970, the category was known as Short Subjects, Cartoons; and from 1971 to 1973 as Short Subjects, Animated Films. The present title began with the 46th Awards in 1974. Animation Techniques
Animation is a method by which still figures are manipulated to appear as moving images. In traditional animation, images are drawn or painted by hand on transparent celluloid sheets to be photographed and exhibited on film. Today, most animations are made with computer-generated imagery (CGI). Computer animation can be very detailed 3D animation, while 2D computer animation (which may have the look of traditional animation) can be used for stylistic reasons, low bandwidth, or faster real-time renderings. Other common animation methods apply a stop motion technique to two- and three-dimensional objects like paper cutouts, puppets, or clay figures. Sand is a granular material composed of finely divided mineral particles. Sand has various compositions but is defined by its grain size. Sand grains are smaller than gravel and coarser than silt. Sand can also refer to a textural class of soil or soil type; i.e., a soil containing more than 85 percent sand-sized particles by mass. Ilana Yahav ( he, אילנה יהב) is a sand animation artist from Israel. She has performed in front of live audiences, in video clips and in advertisements. Career Yahav studied sand art in Hollywood, New York and London. She later ran a studio which created realistic latex puppets, specializing in special effects for movie productions and advertisements. Ferenc Cakó
Ferenc Cakó (born 1950) is a Hungarian artist whose specialty is performing sand animation. He graduated from the College for Creative Arts in 1973 and did amateur animation at that point. His first success was in 1982 and in 1989 he was named artist of the Hungarian People's Republic. After that he did workshops in Finland, France, Spain, Belgium, and Portugal. Amongst his more recent performances, Ferenc Cakó performed in IIT Bombay, Mumbai, India at Techfest 2004. His show in the Open Air Theatre was a huge hit with thousands of students, professors and visitors attending it. The Passion (Netherlands)
The Passion is a Dutch passion play, held every Maundy Thursday since 2011 in a different city each year. The event is broadcast live on Dutch television. In 2015 and 2018, it was broadcast on radio as well. The event began as a collaboration between the broadcasters EO and RKK. At present, it is mainly a joint effort between the broadcasters EO and KRO-NCRV. The participating organizations consider ''The Passion'' missionary work and they see it as a chance to promote Easter and Christianity in general. Creation The Dutch event and television program is partly inspired by the English local play ''Manchester Passion'', held on Good Friday and broadcast by the BBC Three. The production company Eye2Eye Media brought the event to the Netherlands. Co Hoedeman
Jacobus Willem (Co) Hoedeman (born August 1, 1940 in Amsterdam) is a Dutch-Canadian filmmaker known for his mastery of stop motion animation and technical innovation in films that reveal his close observation of human and social interaction. Biography Hoedeman was born during the German occupation of the Netherlands and survived the Hunger Winter of 1944-45, when many of Amsterdam's residents died of starvation brought on by a German blockade and other factors. At the age of 15, Hoedeman left school to work as a photograph retoucher in the printing industry in his native the Netherlands, but soon decided to try film. He first worked at Multifilm, a small production company in Haarlem, and then at Cinecentrum in Hilversum, where he worked in the optical and special effects department and helped out with camera, laboratory and sound work when he could.
