San Lorenzo di Valsanzibio is a Roman Catholic parish church in the frazione of Valsanzibio of the comune of Galzignano Terme, province of Padova, region of Veneto, Italy. History The first parish church in Valsanzibio was an ancient church dedicated to St Eusebius, former bishop of Vercelli. Galzignano Terme ( vec, Galsignán) is a ''comune'' (municipality) in the Province of Padua in the Italian region Veneto, located about southwest of Venice and about southwest of Padua. Etymology The illustrious academic Olivieri thought that the name of Galzignano came from the Latin word Gallicinus, with the suffix -anu. This means that the lord of this territory left his mark on this area: his name inspired the name of the future town of Galzignano Terme. History The oldest document in which we find the name of the town of Galzignano goes back to February, 9th 952 A.D with the Holy Roman Emperor Otto I who said In other documents found in Verona, February 14 1077 A.D, we find the quote As we can see, the origin of this town is very ancient. Eusebius Of Vercelli
Eusebius of Vercelli (c. March 2, 283 – August 1, 371) was a bishop from Sardinia and is counted a saint. Along with Athanasius, he affirmed the divinity of Jesus against Arianism. Biography Eusebius was born in Sardinia, in 283. After his father's martyrdom, he was taken to Rome by his mother, where he later became a lector. He became the first bishop in Vercelli (in northern Italy), probably sometime in the early- to mid-340s. According to a letter of Ambrose to the congregation in Vercelli two decades after Eusebius' death, the local leaders recognized his piety and thus elected him rather than local candidates (''Epistola lxiii, Ad Vercellenses''). Inspired by St Athanasius's ''Life of St Anthony'', he founded a priestly community in Vercelli that resembled a monastic community. Arianism ( grc-x-koine, Ἀρειανισμός, ) is a Christological doctrine first attributed to Arius (), a Christian presbyter from Alexandria, Egypt. The Barbarigo were a patrician, noble Venetian family, whose members had an important role in the history of the Republic of Venice. History The family originated from the Istrian area (according to the tradition, their ancestral place was Muggia, near Trieste).
