San Giovanni Da Verdara
San Giovanni di Verdara or Saint John of Verdara is a former Roman Catholic monastery and church located on Via San Giovanni di Verdara # 123, in the city of Padua, region of Veneto, Italy. It was founded in 1221, but now serves as a military hospital, and is not accessible to the public. History and description The site by 1219 housed a convent of benedictine order monks. Because the site had luxuriant growth of vegetation, the site gained the suffix of ''de Verdara''. In 1436, the monastery was granted to the Canons Regular of the Lateran. They commissioned from Lorenzo da Bologna and Giuliano da Porlezza a refurbishment of the monastery and design of the present church building. By 1566, the monastery had become an abbey, and over the next centuries had accumulated a well known library, with collections from Pietro Montagnana, Marco Mantova Bonavides, and Ludovico Antonio Muratori. Benedetto Montagna
Benedetto Montagna (c. 1480–1555/58) was an Italian engraver and painter. Montagna was born in Vicenza, the son of the leading painter of the city, Bartolomeo Montagna, with whom he trained and perhaps continued to work. His approximately 53 engravings seem to have been produced in the period from about 1500 until his father died in 1523 and he inherited the workshop; in these years he was "the most prolific engraver of his generation in northern Italy". He ran the workshop into at least the 1540s, but his paintings fell behind the development of Italian styles as they largely follow his father's style, less successfully. Many do not survive. Pietro Rotari
Pietro Antonio Rotari (30 September 1707 – 31 August 1762) was an Italian painter of the Baroque period. Born in Verona, he led a peripatetic career, and died in Saint Petersburg, where he had traveled to paint for the Russian court. His portraits, mostly of women, are renowned for being beautiful and realistic. Rotari's works were generally limited to royal portraits held by notables such as emperors and court ladies. Antonio Bonazza (1698 – c. 1762) was an Italian sculptor of the Rococo. Giacomo Antonio Melchiorre Ceruti (October 13, 1698 – August 28, 1767) was an Italian late Baroque painter, active in Northern Italy in Milan, Brescia, and Venice. He acquired the nickname Pitocchetto (the little beggar) for his many paintings of peasants dressed in rags. He was born in Milan, but worked primarily in Brescia.
