Sydney Charles Houghton "Sammy" Davis (9 January 1887, London – 9 January 1981, Guildford) was a British racing motorist, journalist, graphic artist and clubman. Early life Davis was born in South Kensington, London on 9 January 1887, the son of Edwin and Georgina Davis, his father was a merchant and tea importer. He was educated at Westminster School and University College London. While at school, he met Malcolm Campbell, and the duo were involved in a "spectacular pile-up" with a borrowed penny-farthing bicycle. In 1906 Davis became an apprentice with the Daimler Company. Training as a draughtsman, he became involved with the design of various products, from the Daimler-Renard Road Train to Daimler's team of cars in the 1907 ''Kaiserpreis'' race.Wise, p.499. Samuel Story Davis (25 May 1900 – 1988) was an English footballer who played in the Football League for Accrington Stanley, Tranmere Rovers and Stoke. Career Davis was born in Marsden, Tyne and Wear and played for his works team, Whitburn Colliery, before joining Stoke in 1923. He made two appearances for Stoke before leaving for Tranmere Rovers and then Accrington Stanley. Samuel George Davis Sr. (December 12, 1900 – May 21, 1988) was an American dancer and the father of entertainer Sammy Davis Jr. Early life Davis was born in Wilmington, North Carolina, to Rosa B. Taylor (1870–1957) and Robert Davis (1868–1948). He and his former wife Elvera Sanchez were both dancers in a vaudeville troupe. The couple split up when their son Sammy Jr. was three. Davis took custody of his son, who then went into show business with his father. He and Will Mastin, the leader of the dance troupe, taught Sammy Jr. how to dance and they performed together as the Will Mastin Trio. Samuel George Davis Jr. (December 8, 1925 – May 16, 1990) was an American singer, dancer, actor, comedian, film producer and television director. At age three, Davis began his career in vaudeville with his father Sammy Davis Sr. and the Will Mastin Trio, which toured nationally, and his film career began in 1933. After military service, Davis returned to the trio and became an overnight sensation following a nightclub performance at Ciro's (in West Hollywood) after the 1951 Academy Awards. With the trio, he became a recording artist. In 1954, at the age of 29, he lost his left eye in a car accident. Little Sammy Davis (November 28, 1928 – February 16, 2018) was an American blues musician based in New York's Hudson Valley. His music career began in the 1940s, but he was not widely known until the mid-1990s, when he began working in radio, singing, performing on tour, and recording studio albums. Early life and career Davis was born in Winona, Mississippi, and raised in a one-room shack. He learned to play the harmonica at the age of eight. He eventually left home and settled in Florida, where he continued to play the blues in the Miami area and worked in orange groves and sawmills to make ends meet. Samantha "Sammy" Davis (born April 23, 1997) is an American ice hockey forward, currently playing with the PWHL Ottawa of the Professional Women's Hockey League (PWHL). She was drafted 1st overall in the 2020 NWHL Draft by the Boston Pride following a two-year captaincy of the Boston University Terriers women's ice hockey. Playing career While a high school athlete for Tabor Academy in Marion, Massachusetts, Davis was awarded the John Carlton Memorial Trophy, given out annually by the Boston Bruins of the NHL. Davis was named to the Hockey East All-Rookie team, scoring 26 points in 39 games in the 2015–16 season. She would put up 23 points in 35 games the next year, before missing the entire 2017–18 season after having bilateral hip surgery.
