Sam Wood (rugby League, Born 1997)
Sam Wood (born 11 July 1997) is an English professional rugby league footballer who plays for as a for the Castleford Tigers in the Super League. He has previously played for the Huddersfield Giants and Hull Kingston Rovers in the Super League. He has spent time on loan and dual registration from Huddersfield Giants, Huddersfield at Oldham R.L.F.C., Oldham, Halifax RLFC, Halifax, the Batley Bulldogs and the Dewsbury Rams in the RFL Championship, Championship, and at Workington Town in RFL League 1, League 1. Background Wood was born in Dewsbury, West Yorkshire, England. He is a product of the Huddersfield Giants academy system. Dewsbury is a minster and market town in the Metropolitan Borough of Kirklees in West Yorkshire, England. It lies on the River Calder and on an arm of the Calder and Hebble Navigation waterway. The 2016 Rugby Football League Championship, known as Kingstone Press Championship due to sponsorship by Kingstone Press Cider, was a rugby league football competition played in the UK, one tier below the first tier Super League. The 2016 season was the second to consist of a new structure combining the championship and super league divisions three quarters of the way through the season. Super League XXVI, known as the Betfred Super League XXVI for sponsorship reasons, was the 26th season of the Super League and 127th season of rugby league in Great Britain. The 2021 season was originally scheduled to begin on 11 March 2021, however, on 14 January 2021, it was announced that all clubs had agreed to push the start date back by two weeks, to increase the chances of fans being able to attend matches. Super League XXV, known as the Betfred Super League for sponsorship reasons, was the 25th season of the Super League and 126th season of rugby league in Great Britain. St Helens were the reigning champions going into Super League XXV. At the start of the season, it consisted of twelve professional rugby league teams: ten from England, one from Canada, and one from France. Due to financial pressures related to the season suspension, Canadian side Toronto Wolfpack withdrew from the league in July 2020, and the league continued with just 11 teams. Super League XXIV, known as the Betfred Super League XXIV for sponsorship reasons, was the 2019 iteration of and the 24th season of the Super League and 125th season of rugby league in Great Britain. Twelve teams competed over 29 rounds, including the Magic Weekend, which took place at Anfield. After the regular rounds, the top five highest teams entered the Super League play-offs, for a place in the Super League Grand Final. The remaining seven teams were eliminated after the main league stage.
