Esa-Pekka Salonen
Esa-Pekka Salonen (; born 30 June 1958) is a Finnish orchestral conductor and composer. He is principal conductor and artistic advisor of the Philharmonia Orchestra in London, conductor laureate of the Los Angeles Philharmonic, and music director of the San Francisco Symphony. Life and career Early work Born in Helsinki, Finland, Salonen graduated from Helsingin Suomalainen Yhteiskoulu (SYK), one of the top high schools in Finland, in 1977 and then went to study horn and composition at the Sibelius Academy in Helsinki, as well as conducting with Jorma Panula. His conducting classmates included Jukka-Pekka Saraste and Osmo Vänskä. Anton Salonen Incident
Anton Salonen (russian: Антон Салонен; born 3 October 2003) is a child with Russian-Finnish dual citizenship involved in an international child custody dispute between his parents. The Finnish-born child was first abducted by his Estonian Russian mother in 2008 and taken to Russia. In turn the boy was abducted by his father in 2009 and smuggled back to Finland with the help of Finnish diplomats stationed at the Finnish consulate in Saint Petersburg. The incident has sparked a diplomatic row between Finland and Russia. The Finnish diplomat who helped to abduct the child was dismissed from the Finnish Consulate and Russia has declared him ''persona non grata''. Background Anton's Finnish father and Russian Estonian mother met in Tallinn, Estonia in 1994 and married in 1997. Timo Salonen (born October 8, 1951) is a Finnish former rally driver who won the 1985 World Rally Championship season for Peugeot. It was commented of him that he stood out from other drivers, because he was overweight, wore thick glasses and smoked heavily, but still remained one of the fastest and most competitive drivers in the sport. He was also known for his relaxed attitude and for his habit of steering his rally car with one hand only. These factors led to the nickname ''Löysä'' ("Slack"). With his 7 rally wins he remained the most successful driver of Group B era (1983–1986) of WRC. Kristiina Johanna Salonen (born 7 June 1977) is a Finnish politician. She has been a Member of the Parliament for the Social Democratic Party of Finland since 2011. Education and early career Salonen was born and still lives in Rauma. She graduated as ylioppilas in 1996 and as social instructor in 2000. She has worked as a gerontological nurse and the superior for social instructing of City of Rauma. Political career Salonen has been elected to the City Council of Rauma in 2004, 2008, 2012 and 2017. She has also been elected to the Parliament of Finland from Satakunta in 2011 and 2015. In 2015 she received 9,560 votes, more than any other candidate in Satakunta. Toivo Kostia Salonen (21 May 1933 – 28 October 2019) was a former speed skater from Finland. He was born in Pälkäne. Medals Toivo Salonen had most of his successes on a national level, becoming Finnish Allround Champion in 1954, 1956, 1957, 1958, 1959, 1961, winning Finnish silver in 1953, 1955, and 1962, and taking bronze in 1963 and 1964. But Salonen also competed internationally for 12 years and participated in 4 Winter Olympics. At the 1956 Winter Olympics in Cortina d'Ampezzo, he won bronze on the 1,500 m. So far (including the 2006 Winter Olympics), Salonen is the last Finnish male speed skater to have won an Olympic medal – the last Finnish female speed skater so far being Kaija Mustonen in 1968. Brian Scott Salonen (born July 29, 1961) is a former American football tight end and linebacker in the National Football League (NFL) or the Dallas Cowboys. He played college football at the University of Montana. Early years Salonen attended Great Falls High School, where he was an All-state football player that played on offense and defense (linebacker). In basketball, he received both All-state and All-American honors. He accepted a football scholarship from the University of Montana, where he played as a tight end and also served as team's long snapper. Neil Albert Salonen (born 1946) served as the ninth president of the University of Bridgeport, a private university in Bridgeport, Connecticut from 1999 to 2018. He is a member of the Unification Church and became the president of the Unification Church of the United States in 1972.
