Nykøbing Falster (; originally named Nykøbing) is a southern Danish city, seat of the Guldborgsund ''kommune''. It belongs to Region Sjælland. The city lies on Falster, connected by the Frederick IX Bridge over the Guldborgsund (''Guldborg Strait'') waterway to the island of Lolland. The town has a population of 16,911 (1 January 2022). Including the satellite town Sundby on the Lolland side, with a population of 3,065 the total population is 19,976. Peter Ilsted
Peter Ilsted (14 February 1861 – 16 April 1933) was a Danish artist and printmaker. He was most associated with domestic interior scenes. Biography Peter Vilhelm Ilsted was born at Sakskøbing in Guldborgsund, Denmark. He was the son of merchant Jens Peter Ilsted and Johanne Sophie Lund. He was the brother-in-law of painter Vilhelm Hammershøi (1864–1916). He married Ingeborg Lovisa Petersen (1869–1945) in 1891. He came to the Royal Danish Academy of Fine Arts in 1878, completing his course of study in five years. He made his debut at the Charlottenborg Spring Exhibition in 1883. Two years later, he joined a study trip across Italy to Egypt, Palestine, Greece and Turkey. Later he visited Scotland, England, Holland, Belgium, Spain, Morocco and France. With support from the Cultural Ministry, he traveled to the Exposition Universelle (1889) in Paris. He was awarded the Eckersberg Medal in 1890 and 1899. Guldborgsund is a municipality (Danish, '' kommune'') in Region Sjælland in Denmark, created on 1 January 2007 from six (6) former municipalities on the two islands Lolland in the west and Falster in the east bordering the Guldborgsund strait. Carl Andersen (gymnast)
Carl Andersen (9 March 1879 in Odense – 12 September 1967 in Nykøbing Falster) was a Danish gymnast and architect. Gymnast Andersen competed in the 1906 Intercalated Games and in the 1908 Summer Olympics. During the 1906 Games in Athens, he was a member of the Danish gymnastics team, which won the silver medal in the team, Swedish system event. Two years later he was part of the Danish team, which finished fourth in the team competition. Architect Carl Andersen was the son of carpenter Andreas Ferdinand Andersen and Ane Marie Hansen. He became a mason apprentice in 1896 and graduated from Odense Tekniske Skole in 1900. He was employed as construction overseer by master builder Thaaning in Kerteminde in 1900-01 and as a draftsman for architect Emanuel Momberg in Odense in 1901–02. Christopher II Of Denmark
Christopher II (; 29 September 1276 – 2 August 1332) was King of Denmark from 1320 to 1326 and again from 1329 until his death. He was a younger son of Eric V. His name is connected with national disaster, as his rule ended in an almost total dissolution of the Danish state. Biography Being the brother of King Eric VI who reigned from 1286 until 1319, Christopher was a possible heir to the throne. As a young man with the title of Duke of Estonia, he supported the politics of his brother. Among other things he arrested Archbishop Jens Grand in 1294. But later on he joined the opposition and went into exile at the death of Eric in 1319. The magnates wanted a weak royal power, and Christopher was elected as king in January 1320; in return he signed a contractual håndfæstning, the first time this kind of document was used as a coronation charter.
