The Sakhalin Oblast Duma (russian: Сахалинская областная дума, Sakhalinskaya oblastnaya duma) is the regional parliament of Sakhalin Oblast, a federal subject of Russia. Together with the executive and judicial branches, the oblast's legislative assembly is vested with power to control the oblast's own affairs with moderate levels of autonomy from Moscow. A total of 28 deputies are elected for five-year terms. History Prior to the dissolution of the Soviet Union, the Supreme Soviet of RSFSR was the legislative body of the Soviet Union that was elected by members of the Congress of People's Deputies of Russia. The Soviet of the Nationalities (russian: Совет Национальностей) was one of the two chambers of the Supreme Soviet of the Russian SFSR (Russian Federation). In 1990–1993 it consisted of 126 deputies. The Soviet of the Republic was established in 1989, as one of the chambers of the formerly unicameral Supreme Soviet, and elected in 1990. A Just Russia — For Truth (SRZP; russian: Справедливая Россия — За правду; СРЗП, Spravedlivaya Rossiya — Za pravdu; SRZP), formerly A Just Russia (SR), is a social conservative and social-democratic political party in Russia. The party, part of the "systemic opposition", is considered to be pro-Kremlin. New People (russian: Новые люди, Novyye lyudi) is a political party in Russia formed in Moscow on 1 March 2020. New People is considered a liberal party, and observers have called it centrist or centre-right. It was established in March 2020 by Alexey Nechayev, the founder of the Russian cosmetics company Faberlic.
