Saint George's School is an independent K-12 college preparatory school located in Spokane, Washington. The campus is located on along the Little Spokane River. Saint George's mission statement is "Inspiring scholars, athletes, and artists to serve and lead others." History Saint George's School was established in 1955 as St. George's Episcopal School on the former summer estate of Louis Davenport called Flowerfield. At that time, there were 45 students in grades seven through nine. Initially, students were required to share space with the livestock in the stable while construction of the original school building was underway. By 1957, association with the episcopal church was severed and the school name was officially changed to Saint George's School. In June 1959, Saint George's held its first commencement exercises as nine seniors crossed graduation bridge to the music of the Angus Scott pipe band, a tradition that is continued to this day. David Shannon (born October 5, 1959) is an American writer and illustrator of children's books. Shannon grew up in Spokane, Washington. He graduated from the Art Center College of Design and now lives in Los Angeles. In 1998 he won the Caldecott Honor for his ''No, David!''. Little Spokane River
The Little Spokane River is a major tributary of the Spokane River, approximately long, in eastern Washington in the United States. It drains a rural area of forested foothills and a farming valley north of the city of Spokane along the Idaho–Washington border. It has two branches, one starting west of Newport and the other stemming from Eloika lake farther west. The two branches come together between the communities of Elk upstream and Milan downstream. The supply from Eloika is quite warm in the summer and has different fish habitat than the colder branch from Newport. The best trout fishing is where the two branches come together, but is on privately owned land. It is also a privately owned water body, which is rare. It rises in southern Pend Oreille County, south of Newport near the Idaho state line. It flows south-southwest past the communities of Elk, Milan, Chattaroy, Buckeye, Colbert, Dartford and Fairwood.
