Saint-Damase-de-L'Islet, Quebec
Saint-Damase-de-L'Islet is a municipality in Quebec, Canada, with a population of about 600 people nestled in the Appalachian mountains. It is located about southeast of Saint-Jean-Port-Joli. It is named after the Pope Damasus I and Damase Ouellet (1826–1908), which is known as the pioneer of the town. The town was first named "Municipalité du canton d'Ashford" in 1898 and got its current name in 1955. It is known for its local Chicken Festival every September. Saint-Aubert is a municipality in Quebec, situated in the L'Islet Regional County Municipality and the Chaudière-Appalaches administrative region. Saint-Aubert lies in the Côte-du-Sud federal electoral district. Geography Saint-Aubert is situated between St-Jean-Port-Joli and Saint-Damase-de-L'Islet, not far from the southern coast of the Saint Lawrence River, some from Quebec City. The landscape of Saint-Aubert is defined by its plateaus and hills. Tourville, Quebec
Tourville is a municipality in the L'Islet RCM in Quebec, Canada. It is located in the Chaudière-Appalaches administrative region. History The parish of Saint-Clément-de-Tourville, which served as a mission from 1913-1919, was officially founded in 1919 by an abbot named Bernard-Édouard Martin. The citizens wished to name it Martinville in his honour, but since there was another post office that had been established under this name, they opted for Tourville, which also honours Saint Martin of Tours. A road to the village (today known as Route 204), was constructed between 1854 and 1859. At that time, the village had already been taking advantage of the abundant wood, particularly pine. In 1856, a farmer from Saint-Roch-des-Aulnaies settled near Black Lake and lowered its water level by digging an outlet in hopes of making a pasture. Pope Damasus I (; c. 305 – 11 December 384) was the bishop of Rome from October 366 to his death. He presided over the Council of Rome of 382 that determined the canon or official list of sacred scripture. He spoke out against major heresies (including Apollinarianism and Macedonianism) and thus solidifying the faith of the Catholic Church, and encouraged production of the Vulgate Bible with his support for Jerome. He helped reconcile the relations between the Church of Rome and the Church of Antioch, and encouraged the veneration of martyrs. As well as various prose letters and other pieces Damasus was the author of Latin verse. Saint-Jean-Port-Joli, Quebec
Saint-Jean-Port-Joli is a village in the Regional County Municipality of L'Islet within the Chaudière-Appalaches region of Quebec, Canada. It is located on the south shore of the Saint Lawrence River and is the county seat. The village is located off the Trans-Canada Highway, Autoroute 20. Route 132 passes through the town. It is known for its craftspeople and artists, especially in the fields of wood carving and sculpture. There are also several well-reputed restaurants. History The village takes its name from the seigneury of Port-Joly, which was established in 1677. The Parish of St-Jean-Port-Joli was canonically established in 1721.
