Sailing At The 1968 Summer Olympics – Star
The Star was a sailing event on the Sailing at the 1968 Summer Olympics program in Acapulco. Seven races were scheduled. 40 sailors, on 20 boats, from 20 nations competed. Results DNF = Did not finish, DNS= Did not start, DSQ = Disqualified 13px = Male, 13px = Female Daily standings Conditions at Acapulco Of the total of three race areas were needed during the Olympics in Acapulco. Each of the classes was new Olympic scoring system. John Albrechtson
John Albrechtson (22 July 1936 – 27 August 1985) was a Swedish sailboat racing, sailor. Between 1968 and 1978 he won one Olympic gold medal and three gold, one silver and one bronze medals at the world championships. Biography Albrechtson started his sailing career in the Stjärnbåt class and moved on to Star (sailboat), Star class in 1957. He won his first Star Swedish Championships in 1966. The same year, together with Paul Elvstrøm, he won the Star World Championship. Between 1971 and 1978 Albrechtson competed in the Tempest (keelboat), Tempest class. Axel Frederik Preben Schmidt (30 April 1939 – 10 June 2018) was a Brazilian sailor from Rio de Janeiro who competed in the Summer Olympic Games, the Pan American Games, the Snipe World Championships, the Star World Championships and the Lightning World Championships. He is the son of Preben Tage Axel Schmidt (born in 1898 in Frederiksberg, Denmark) and Helene Margrete Jelinski (born in Lyck, East Prussia) and brother of Ingrid, Margrete and Erik Schmidt, also competitive Brazilian sailors.
