Saggart Luas Stop
Saggart ( ga, Teach Sagard) is a stop on the Luas light-rail tram system in Dublin, Ireland. It opened in 2011 as the terminus of an extension of the Red Line. The stop is located on a section of reserved track next to Citywest Drive near Saggart village in south-west Dublin. It is also close to Whitechurch and Baldonnel. To the north of the stop, a large area has been set aside for a development called Parklands, which is planned to include over 150 houses, two new schools, retail and a large sports area. As of 2020, development has begun onsite. Saggart has a similar layout to Tallaght Luas stop: there are two edge platforms, beyond which the track continues for around 80m where there is a double crossover. Red Line (Luas)
The Red Line () is one of the two lines of Dublin's Luas light rail system. The Red Line runs in an east–west direction through the city centre, north of the River Liffey, before travelling southwest to Tallaght, with a fork to Citywest and Saggart. The Red Line opened on 26 September 2004. History Construction work began in March 2001 on the Tallaght to Connolly line, as well as the Sandyford to St. Stephen's Green section of the second line, with Gio. Ansaldo & C., Ansaldo of Italy and MVM of Australia getting the contract to build the system. The St. Stephen's Green to Dublin Airport section was dropped before construction began, as it was decided to serve the area by a Dublin Metro, metro instead. Transdev, formerly Veolia Transdev, is a French-based international private-sector company which operates public transport. It has operations in 17 countries and territories as of November 2020. Luas
Luas (pronounced ; Irish for "speed") is a tram/ light rail system in Dublin, Ireland. There are two main lines: the Green Line, which began operating on 30 June 2004, and the Red Line which opened on 26 September 2004. Since then, both lines have been extended and split into different branches further out of the city. The two lines, as of 2017, now intersect and connect within Dublin city centre. The system now has 67 stations and of revenue track, which in 2018 carried 41.8 million passengers, an increase of 11.2% compared to 2017. Luas is operated by Transdev, under tender from Transport Infrastructure Ireland (TII). (Prior to the later RPA merger with the National Roads Authority to form TII, the tender was originally under the defunct Railway Procurement Agency jurisdiction). Saggart
Saggart ( ga, Teach Sagard) is a village in South Dublin, Ireland, south west of Dublin city. It lies between the N7 (Naas Road), Rathcoole, Citywest and Tallaght. It is one of the fastest-growing settlements in Ireland, showing a population increase of 46.1% between 2011 and 2016. Name A monk called Mosacra founded a settlement on the site of the village in the 7th century. The name Saggart derives from ''Teach Sacra'' which means 'house of Sacra' in Irish. History A monastery existed just outside the village in the 7th century. The remains of this monastery are found on the grounds of an equestrian centre approximately 1.5 km from today's Saggart Village. After St Mosacra died, it became a nunnery with over 80 nuns living there until the Viking attacks of the 9th century. Whitechurch, County Dublin
Whitechurch (), is a small suburban area on the south side of Dublin, situated south of Ballyboden, east of Edmondstown and west of Marlay Park. The greater part of the area lies north of the M50 semi-orbital motorway, with some remote parts merging into the mountainous districts of Tibradden and Kilmashogue south of the road, all at the foot of the Dublin mountains. Whitechurch is usually considered to lie within the greater Rathfarnham area. The name of the area is derived its name from a small white church in Kilmashogue, built near an ancient cairn (which is a protected monument). Little remains of the church. The Church of Ireland parish of Whitechurch includes most of Rathfarnham including Tibradden, Larch Hill and Kilmashogue. Baldonnel, Dublin
Baldonnel () is a townland in west County Dublin. It is an industrial/agricultural area near Clondalkin, Tallaght, Lucan, Saggart and Naas. It is around 15 km west of Dublin city centre. The name derives from former landowners in the area; the earliest written record of the name comes from a 1717 deed for Baldonnell which lists alternate spellings of Baldownan, Balldonnan, and Ballydonnell. Two surviving local houses (the oldest to the north of the airfield, and the newest further east in the same area) claim the name Baldonnell House, and the ruins of the original house are located to the east of the airfield. The River Camac flows through the townland before flowing by way of Corkagh Park to join the River Liffey. Tallaght Luas Stop
Tallaght (; ga, Tamhlacht) is a stop on the Luas light-rail tram system in Dublin, Ireland. It opened in 2004 as the terminus of the Red Line. The stop is located on a section of reserved track at the side of the road the populous suburb of Tallaght, opposite The Square Shopping Centre. It also provides access to Tallaght Stadium, the offices of South Dublin County Council, and the local campus of the Technological University Dublin. The stop has two edge platforms, and trams reverse using a double crossover immediately beyond the stop. Thus, one platform is used for arrivals and one for departures. Upon leaving Tallaght, trams travel along their own right of way, rounding a corner where the tracks are straddled by buildings. They then head north on their way to Connolly or The Point.
