SMU School Of Law
The Yong Pung How School of Law is one of the six schools of Singapore Management University. It was set up as Singapore's second law school in 2007, 50 years after the NUS Faculty of Law and 10 years before SUSS School of Law. Before becoming a law school, the school was a Law Department within the School of Business between 2000 and 2007. Up until 2021, the school was known as the SMU School of Law; in 2021, it was renamed after former Chief Justice Yong Pung How. The school offers a four-year undergraduate single Bachelor of Laws (LLB) degree programme and a double degree programme combining the law degree programme with one of SMU's existing non-law programmes. The school also offers a graduate Juris Doctor (JD) programme as well as a Master of Laws (LLM) programme. Moot Court
Moot court is a co-curricular activity at many law schools. Participants take part in simulated court or arbitration proceedings, usually involving drafting memorials or memoranda and participating in oral argument. In most countries, the phrase "moot court" may be shortened to simply "moot" or "mooting". Participants are either referred to as "mooters" or, less conventionally, "mooties". Format and structure Moot court involves simulated proceedings before an appellate court, arbitral tribunal, or international dispute resolution body. These are different from mock trials that involve simulated jury trials or bench trials. Chao Hick Tin
Chao Hick Tin (born 27 September 1942) is a former appellate judge in the Supreme Court of Singapore and former Attorney-General of Singapore. Early life Chao was born in Singapore and studied at Catholic High School. He received his legal education at University College London, where he obtained his Bachelor and Masters of Law degrees in 1965 and 1966 respectively. Career Chao was called to the Bar as a barrister of the Middle Temple in 1965. In 1967, he joined the Attorney-General's Chambers, Singapore where he rose to become a Senior State Counsel in 1979. Chao was appointed the Head of the Civil Division in the Attorney-General's Chambers in 1982 and held that post until his elevation to the Supreme Court bench on 1 October 1987 as Judicial Commissioner. Vijaya Kumar Rajah (born 14 January 1957), better known as V. K. Rajah, is a Singaporean lawyer who was the eighth attorney-general of Singapore between 2014 and 2017 and a former judge of the Supreme Court. Early life Rajah was born in Singapore on 14 January 1957. His father was Thampore Thamby Rajah, better known as T. T. Rajah, a leader of Barisan Sosialis, and founder of one of the "Big Four" law firms in Singapore, Rajah & Tann. Yeo Tiong Min SC PBM () is a Singaporean legal academic. He is the Yong Pung How Professor of Law at the Singapore Management University School of Law and served as its dean from 2012 to 2017. Andrew Phang Boon Leong (born 15 December 1957) is a Singaporean judge in the Supreme Court. Early life and education Phang was born in 1957 in Singapore. Phang received his Bachelor of Laws (first class honours) from the University of Singapore in 1982, before earning his Master of Laws and Doctor of Juridical Science from Harvard Law School in 1984 and 1988 respectively. Established in 2000, the school was the first to be established under the Singapore Management University's charter. It is a research-driven school, with a blend of education that focuses on academic research and industrial relevance.
