SGB Premiership 2024
The 2024 SGB Premiership will be the 89th season of the top tier of British speedway and the 7th known as the SGB Premiership. The league was sponsored by Sports Insure. The defending champions are Sheffield Tigers and Ipswich Witches are the defending Knockout Cup champions. Summary The league will consist of seven teams despite the loss of Peterborough Panthers and Wolverhampton Wolves. They were replaced by Birmingham Brummies, who joined from the Championship (tier 2), as did the Oxford Spires (a third and new team from the Oxford Cheetahs promotion). The Speedway Great Britain (SGB) Premiership is the top division of speedway league competition in the United Kingdom, governed by the Speedway Control Bureau (SCB) in conjunction with the British Speedway Promoters' Association (BSPA). Wolverhampton Wolves
Wolverhampton Wolves are a British speedway team based in Wolverhampton, England. They are sponsored by Parry's International Travel, and signed a deal with owner Dave Parry (previous speedway rider for the Wolverhampton Wolves) for the 2008 season onwards. The team is managed by Peter Adams and the promoter of the club is Chris Van Straaten. History 1928–1960 The club was founded in 1928 racing at Monmore Green Stadium, and after a brief flirtation with speedway, saw its last pre-war meeting in 1930. It was 20 years later that the sport returned to the town. During 1948 and the post-war optimism, record crowds were attending speedway events up and down the country. With towns keen to cash in on the boom, Wolverhampton's stadium owners applied to the local council for a track to be re-built at the original site. Wiktor Lampart (born 21 May 2001) is an international speedway rider from Poland. Speedway career Lampart became the European Junior Champion after winning the 2019 Individual Speedway Junior European Championship. He had previously won the silver medal in 2018. In 2021, he won the gold medal at the Team Junior World Championship with Jakub Miśkowiak. In 2022, he finished in 4th place during the World Under-21 Championship in the 2022 SGP2. Leon Flint (born 22 February 2003) is a speedway rider from England. Career Flint began his British speedway career riding for Birmingham Brummies during the 2018 National League speedway season. In 2021 he rode in the top tier of British Speedway for the first time, riding for the Wolverhampton Wolves in the SGB Premiership 2021, in addition to riding for the Berwick Bandits in the SGB Championship 2021. In 2022, he rode for Wolverhampton again in the SGB Premiership 2022 and for the Berwick again in the SGB Championship 2022. During the season he won the 2022 British U21 title. Zach Cook (born 15 July 1999) is a speedway rider from Australia. Speedway career Cook signed for Plymouth Gladiators for the SGB Championship 2021 season. The following season in 2022, he rode for the Poole Pirates in the SGB Championship 2022 and was instrumental in helping Poole retain their tier 2 League and Knockout Cup double crown. In 2023, he signed for Wolverhampton Wolves, where he would make his Premiership debut in the SGB Premiership 2023. Tom Brennan (speedway Rider)
Thomas Brennan (born 2 July 2001) is a British speedway rider. Career In 2016, Brennan made a number of guest appearances at reserve for Eastbourne Eagles after he turned 15 and was eligible to ride in the National League. He made his debut for Eastbourne on his 15th birthday against Birmingham Brummies, however he crashed in his first ride and suffered a broken collarbone. Brennan retained his spot for Eastbourne for the 2017 season. A good start to the season saw him move from reserve to number 1, before he moved to number 4 for the majority of the season. He scored his first paid maximum scoring 9+3 from 4 rides in the National League Knockout Cup Final against Mildenhall Fen Tigers. Brennan finished the season with an average of 7.21, making him the most improved rider in the National League in 2017, with an increase of 4.21 from his starting average of 3.00. Brady Kurtz (born 27 September 1996) is an Australian speedway rider. Biography Born in Cowra, New South Wales, Kurtz isn't the only racer in his family. Brady's older brother Todd Kurtz is a fellow Speedway rider, who has ridden for the Plymouth Devils amongst other teams in the UK. Career Brady got his first break into British Speedway riding in the Premier League with the Somerset Rebels. After 2 impressive years with the Rebels, Kurtz was named in the Poole Pirates team to compete in the 2016 Elite League. This news didn't come as a surprise, as Kurtz had already been the subject of interest from Poole for some time. Benjamin Cook (born 27 October 1997) is a speedway rider from Australia. Speedway career Cook, placed fifth in the FIM Oceania Championship before signing for Poole Pirates during the SGB Championship 2020 season. However the season was cancelled but he retained his place for the SGB Championship 2021 season, which resulted in a highly successful season for the Pirates as they won the league and Knockout Cup double.
