S. P. Adithanar Senior Tamil Scholar Award, is presented annually to recognize senior Tamil scholar for their lifetime contribution. It was instituted by Daily Thanthi groups in the memory of S. P. Adithanar, founder of Daily Thanthi. The award is presented on anniversary celebration of S.P. Adithanar every year at Rani Seethai Hall. ''Dina Thanthi'' ( en, Daily Mail; known as Daily Thanthi in English) is a Tamil language daily newspaper. It was founded by S. P. Adithanar in Madurai in 1942. ''Dina Thanthi'' is India's largest daily printed in the Tamil language and the ninth largest among all dailies in India by circulation. It is printed in 16 cities across India and also prints an international edition in Dubai. History Dina Thanthi was established in Madurai in 1942 by S. P. Adithanar. Circulation This daily newspaper is published from 16 cities in India namely Bangalore, Chennai, Mumbai, Pondicherry, Coimbatore, Cuddalore, Dindigul, Erode, Madurai, Nagercoil, Salem, Thanjavur, Tiruchirappalli, Tirunelveli, Tirupur and Vellore. "Erode" Tamilanban, also spelled as Erode Tamizhanban, is a Tamil poet and writer from Tamil Nadu, India. In 2004, he was awarded the Sahitya Akademi Award for Tamil for his poetry collection ''Vanakkam Valluva '' (lit. Greetings, Valluvar). Avvai Natarajan (24 April 1936 – 21 November 2022) was an Indian Tamil scholar and educationist who was Vice-Chancellor of Thanjavur Tamil University. The Government of India honored Natarajan in 2011, with the fourth highest civilian award of Padma Shri. Biography Avvai Natarajan, hailing from the South Indian state of Tamil Nadu, was a secretary to the Government of Tamil Nadu in the Department of Tamil Language Development and Culture. Holder of an MLitt and a doctoral degree (PhD) in Tamil literature, Natarajan has also worked as the Vice Chancellor of Tamil University, Thanjavur. He was a member of the Central Institute of Classical Tamil, an institute established by the Government of India for propagation of classical Tamil language and culture. Ponneelan, born 1940 at Manikatti Pottal, Kanyakumari district) is the pen name of Kandeswara Bhaktavatsalan, a Tamil writer from Tamil Nadu, India. He is a Marxist and was influenced by Tamil Communist leader P. Jeevanandham in his younger days. He became a teacher and retired as the deputy director of school education for Tamil Nadu.
