Rødovre Town Hall
Rødovre Town Hall ( da, Rødovre Rådhus) is located at the centre of Rødovre, a municipality some 9 km (5 mi) to the west of Copenhagen's city centre. Completed in 1956, it was designed by the Danish architect Arne Jacobsen. A fine example of the international architecture trends of the 1950s, it was inspired by the General Motors Technical Center to the north of Detroit. Background Modernism had survived the Second World War thanks to European architects working in the United States. From there, the trends returned to Europe. Jacobsen was particularly attracted by the minimalistic work of Mies van der Rohe, Eliel Saarinen, and Skidmore, Owings and Merrill Skidmore, Owings & Merrill (SOM) is an American architectural, urban planning and engineering firm. Rødovre Town Hall, 1952-1956
Rødovre is a town in eastern Denmark, seat of the Rødovre Municipality, in the Region Hovedstaden. The town's population 1 January 2019 was 39,907, and in addition 145 persons had no fixed address, which made up a total of 40,052 in the municipality as a whole. Rødovre is part of the urban area of Copenhagen. History Until 1901, the town was part of the parish of Brønshøj-Rødovre. Vanløse was also part of that parish. In that year, Rødovre was created as independent municipality and Brønshøj was simultaneously annexed by the city of Copenhagen. Geography Rødovre, co-extensive with the territory of its municipality, is in the central-western suburbs of Copenhagen, bordering Copenhagen Municipality to the east, Glostrup to the west, Herlev to the north, and Brøndby and Hvidovre to the south. The Radisson Collection Hotel, Royal Copenhagen is a historic hotel in Copenhagen, Denmark. History The hotel was designed by Danish architect and designer Arne Jacobsen for the airline Scandinavian Airlines System (SAS). It was opened on July 1, 1960 by King Frederick IX and Queen Ingrid as the Royal Hotel. It was also known as the SAS Royal Hotel. The hotel was renamed the Radisson SAS Royal Hotel in 1994, when SAS signed a joint marketing agreement with Radisson Hotels. When SAS and Radisson ceased the marketing agreement in February 2009, the hotel remained with Radisson and was renamed the Radisson Blu Royal Hotel. On March 6, 2018 it was renamed Radisson Collection Hotel, Royal Copenhagen. At its completion the hotel was the largest in Denmark.
