Río Cuarto is a Cantons of Costa Rica, canton in the Alajuela Province, Alajuela province of Costa Rica. The head city is in Río Cuarto District, Río Cuarto district. Toponymy Translates to ''Fourth River''. History Río Cuarto was created on 20 April 2018 by decree 9440. It was originally a district of Grecia (canton), Grecia, however not on contiguous land as it was separated from Grecia when Sarchí (canton), Sarchí canton, which was also part of Grecia originally, became a canton in 1949. After agreement of the Legislative Assembly of Costa Rica in second debate the Thursday 30 March 2017, Río Cuarto district became a canton, then in 2018 three districts were created in the canton. Río Cuarto is a city in the province of Córdoba, Argentina. Located in the south of the province, it has about 157,000 inhabitants () and is an important commercial and agricultural hub. Overview The Río Cuarto River flows through the province of Córdoba; its central location in the Humid Pampas favored the city's development as a transport hub for much of the surrounding agriculture, and a number of slaughterhouses and food processing plants opened in Río Cuarto during the twentieth century. Río Cuarto was founded on November 11, 1786, as ''Villa de la Concepción del Río Cuarto'', by the colonial Governor Rafael de Sobremonte. Its first rail connection was by way of the former Andean Railway in 1870, after which the village grew rapidly with the influx of Italian and Spanish immigrants (mainly as tenant farmers). The Cuarto River ( es, Río Cuarto, 'Fourth River'), also known as Saladillo is a river of Argentina which crosses the southern part of the Province of Córdoba, and merges with the Tercero River to form the Carcarañá River (a tributary of the Paraná River via the Coronda River). The Cuarto River is also known as ''Cochancharava'', the name given to it by the Ranquel Indians. The name Saladillo is generally used for the lower course, below the ''Bañado del Río Saladillo'' wetland.
