Réjean Savoie
Réjean Savoie (born September 15, 1952) is a businessman and political figure in New Brunswick. He is the Progressive Conservative Party MLA for Miramichi Bay-Neguac since 2022 in a by-election to replace Lisa Harris, having previously represented Miramichi Bay in the Legislative Assembly of New Brunswick from 1999 to 2003. He was born in Saint-Wilfred, New Brunswick, the son of Levi Savoie and Exéline Roy. Savoie studied at the Bathurst Technical School and the New Brunswick Community College. He worked as a tractor trailer operator and also owned and operated a restaurant and service station. Savoie served as a member of the school board and as a member of the board of directors for the Neguac Medical Clinic and the l’Hotel-Dieu Hospital in Chatham. Chatham, New Brunswick
Chatham is an urban neighbourhood in the city of Miramichi, New Brunswick, Canada. Prior to municipal amalgamation in 1995, Chatham was an incorporated town in Northumberland County along the south bank of the Miramichi River opposite Douglastown. Since amalgamation, it has been sometimes referred to as Miramichi East. Impact of geography on history At Chatham, the Miramichi River is quite wide, the water salt and tidal. Just downstream from the town, the river begins to widen into a broad estuary, where the Miramichi River gradually becomes Miramichi Bay. Because of its eastward facing location, ships coming from the British Isles in early times had easy access through the Strait of Belle Isle and across the Gulf of St. Lawrence. It was more accessible and safer to get to than the ports of Quebec City or Saint John, New Brunswick. Miramichi Bay-Neguac (french: Baie-de-Miramichi-Neguac) is a provincial electoral district for the Legislative Assembly of New Brunswick, Canada. It was formerly known more simply as Miramichi Bay. The riding was created from part of the multi-member Northumberland riding, and was first contested in 1974. At the 2013 boundary adjustment, the riding moved western and inland taking in the northeast parts of the City of Miramichi and rural areas to the north and west of the city. The riding's previous representative in the Legislative Assembly was Carmel Robichaud of the Liberal Party.
