Råbylille Strand
Råbylille Strand (, en, Raabylille Beach) is a resort on the south coast of eastern Møn, an island on the Baltic Sea in south-east Denmark. On 1 January 2007, it became part of the new Vordingborg municipality. It is to the east of Stege and 15 km south-west of Møns Klint. As a result of the growing popularity of holiday homes, many of which are available for rental, it has developed rapidly over the past 30 years. History The beginnings The history of Møn dates back many thousands of years with traces of tribes living from hunting and fishing in the area. By about 3000 BC, in the neolithic period, the inhabitants built farming settlements throughout the island and created the first ancient monuments in the form of graves or barrows built of huge stones, one of which can be found near Råbymagle, just a couple of kilometers from Råbylille Strand. Klintholm Havn
Klintholm Havn is a fishing village and a popular tourist resort on the south coast of Møn, an island in Vordingborg Municipality, southeastern Denmark. As of 1 January 2012, the population is 201. The harbour was built in 1878 by C.S. Scavenius, owner of the nearby Klintholm Estate, as a means of exporting local produce and chalk. The harbour is the service port for the 600 MW Kriegers Flak wind farm. Attractions Klintholm Havn has now become an active fishing port as well as a popular tourist resort with several restaurants and art galleries. Attractions include the large marina, two sandy beaches, a supermarket and a fresh fish shop. The marina, which has full facilities, allows boat access at all states of the tide and provides safe haven whatever the wind direction. Liselund
Liselund is an 18th-century aesthetically landscaped park, complete with several exotic buildings and monuments. Located close to Møns Klint on the north-eastern corner of the Danish island of Møn, it is deemed to be one of the finest examples in Scandinavia of Romantic English gardening. The park was created in the 1790s by French nobleman Antoine de Bosc de la Calmette for his wife Elisabeth, commonly known as Lisa. Liselund, roughly translated, means Lise's grove. Background Arrival of the De la Calmette family in Denmark Antoine de Bosc de la Calmette was a Huguenot whose family had been forced to leave France for Holland. His father was a diplomat who after terms in Switzerland and Portugal, finally arrived in Denmark where, in 1776, the family was naturalised and recognised as Danish nobility. Elmelunde Church
Elmelunde Church, famous for its frescos, is located in the village of Elmelunde, Møn, in southeastern Denmark. It stands high above the surroundings just south of the main road from Stege to the white cliffs of Møn. The impressive whitewashed building can be seen from miles around and has been used as a landmark by sailors in the Baltic Sea. History Elmelunde is the oldest church on the island of Møn, apparently constructed on a site where a wooden church once stood. The flat mound, to the north of the church, is even older. It is believed to be a heathen burial ground from the Bronze Age. The present church dates back to 1085 when parts of the present choir and nave were built in the Romanesque style. Keldby Church
Keldby Church, famous for its frescoes, is located on the main road to Møns Klint in the village of Keldby, 4 km east of Stege on the Danish island of Møn. The imposing red brick church is one of the three Møn churches decorated with frescos by the Elmelunde Master, probably towards the end of the 15th century. In the Biblia pauperum style, they present many of the most popular stories from the Old and New Testaments. There are also a number of earlier frescoes in the church dating back to about 1275. The original nave and choir were constructed in the first half of the 13th century. Around 1480, the nave was expanded with cross vaults and the choir was heightened with limestone. Møn
Møn () is an island in south-eastern Denmark. Until 1 January 2007, it was a municipality in its own right but it is now part of the municipality of Vordingborg, after merging with the former municipalities of Langebæk, Præstø, and Vordingborg. This has created a municipality with an area of and a total population of 46,307 (2005). It belongs to the Region Sjælland ("Zealand Region"). Møn is one of Denmark's most popular destinations for tourists with its white chalk cliffs, countryside, sandy beaches and the market town of Stege. History Of Denmark
