Rye House Raiders
The Rye House Rockets were a speedway team based at Rye House Stadium, Hoddesdon, England. They competed in various British speedway leagues from 1954 to 2018. History Rye House began life in 1934 hosting open meetings. Whilst at Hackney in 1937, Dicky Case took over the sixty acre estate of Rye House and set up a training school at Rye House Stadium, operating under the name of the Hackney Motor Club. Rye House Stadium
Rye House Stadium is a former greyhound racing and speedway venue in Rye Road, Hoddesdon, Hertfordshire. It is situated adjacent to the River Lea Navigation. Origins The name Rye House originates from a collection of medieval buildings on an area known as the Isle of Rye due to the fact that the land was directly next door to the River Lea/Lee and in particular the Lee Navigation. When the stadium was constructed in 1935 it was put next door to Rye House on a spare plot which is where the name for the stadium came from. Rye House had been the family home for the Parr family that included Catherine in the 16th century and later a workhouse and tourist attraction in the 19th century. All that remains today of the original Rye House is the gatehouse found to the north of the stadium. 1956 Southern Area League
The 1956 Southern Area League was the third season of the regional third tier/division of speedway racing in the United Kingdom British teams. Brafield Flying Foxes were no longer competitors with Southern Rovers taking their place. Southern Rovers had no track and raced all their 'home' fixtures on away tracks. Summary Rye House Roosters were the champions for the second consecutive season. Vic Ridgeon of Rye House topped the averages. Although the Southern Area League continued, it became the second tier division instead of the third tier division. There was not another third division of British speedway until 1996 when the Conference was inaugurated. Final table Leading Averages Riders' Championship Leo McAuliffe won the Riders' Championship. The ''Hertfordshire Mercury'' is a weekly newspaper covering east and north Hertfordshire and parts of west Essex. Edward Kennett
Edward David Kennett (born 28 August 1986 in Hastings, England) is a motorcycle speedway rider. He was the British Under-21 Champion in 2005 and has appeared in two Speedway Grand Prix as a wild card. Kennett's father Dave, was a motorcycle speedway rider who rode for the Eastbourne Eagles, Hackney Hawks, Newport Wasps and the White City Rebels. His uncle Gordon Kennett represented Great Britain, and rode for many clubs. Another uncle, Brian (Barney) Kennett, rode mainly in the British League Division Two/National League for the Canterbury Crusaders during the 1970s and 1980s. Career Kennett started his racing career in the Conference League with the Rye House Raiders in 2001. He had his first permanent team place with the Raiders in 2002. Stuart Robson (speedway Rider)
Stuart Anthony Robson (born 8 November 1976 in Sunderland, Tyne and Wear) is a British motorcycle speedway rider. His brother Scott Robson also rode, as did his father John Robson. Career Stuart made his British racing debut in 1993, riding for the Newcastle Diamonds and in 32 matches he posted an average of 4.35. The following season was again with the Diamonds, where he averaged just under 5 points followed by a switch to Coventry in 1995 where he posted figures of 5.31. His 1996 season was split between Coventry and Middlesbrough, while in 1997 he joined brother Scott at the Hull Vikings in the East Riding of Yorkshire. The following season he returned to the top flight riding once again for Coventry in the Elite League, where he spent four seasons as a five-point averaged rider before a big year in 2003 when he pushed his average for the Bees up to just under seven points from 47 matches. Conference League Four-Team Championship
The Conference League Four-Team Championship was an annual motorcycle speedway contest between teams competing in the tird tier of speedway in the United Kingdom (the Conference League) held from 2003 until 2008. Eight teams consisting of four riders from each team are placed in two qualifying groups, and one rider from each team competed in each race. The current National Development League formerly the National League was formed in 2009 as the third division of speedway in the United Kingdom, replacing the Conference League. It follows the same rules and regulations as the SGB Premiership and SGB Championship, including the use of rider averages. There were two previous speedway leagues in Britain sharing the 'National League' name, the main league that operated from 1932 to 1964, and British League Division Two, which was renamed the National League between 1975 and 1990. The 2005 Premier League speedway season was the second division of speedway in the United Kingdom and governed by the Speedway Control Board (SCB), in conjunction with the British Speedway Promoters' Association (BSPA).
