Ryan James Durand (born November 17, 1985) is a former American football Guard (American football), guard. Durand was selected by the Tennessee Titans in the seventh round in the 2009 NFL draft. He played college football for the Syracuse Orange football, Syracuse Orange. Early life Durand attended St. Bernard's High School (Fitchburg, Massachusetts), St. Bernard’s High School in Fitchburg, Massachusetts, Fitchburg, and was a four-year football letter-winner. He was selected as team captain for both his junior and senior years. Durand rated fifth on PrepStar College Recruiting, PrepStar’s top-10 list for offensive linemen in the East and PrepStar All-East Region selection in 2003. He was labeled to the top offensive lineman and fifth overall prospect in New England by Rivals.com. Additionally, Durand was selected the sixth- best player in New England by SuperPrep. Guard (American Football)
In gridiron football, a guard (G), otherwise known as an offensive guard (OG), is a player who lines up between the center and the tackles on the offensive line of a football team on the line of scrimmage used primarily for blocking. Right guards (RG) is the term for the guards on the right of the offensive line, while left guards (LG) are on the left side. Guards are to the right or left of the center. The guard's job is to protect the quarterback from the incoming linemen during pass plays, as well as creating openings (holes) for the running backs to head through.
