Ryan Bailey (athlete)
Ryan Bailey (born April 13, 1989) is an American sprinter. He has personal bests of 9.88 seconds for the 100-meter dash and 20.10 seconds for the 200-meter dash. He ranks among the top ten Americans ever for the shorter distance. Career A native of Portland, Oregon, Bailey attended Douglas McKay High School in Salem, where he won the 2007 Oregon State Championships 6A titles at 100 metres and 200 metres, and then went on to finish second and third over 200 metres at the Nike Outdoor Championships and USATF Junior Championships, respectively. After graduation, he began studying part-time at Chemeketa Community College. He relocated to Ina, Illinois in January 2009, to attend Rend Lake College, known as one of the top junior college track and field programs in the United States. Rend Lake College (RLC) is a public community college in Ina, Illinois. It is part of the Illinois Community College System (ICCS). History Rend Lake College was founded in 1955 as Mt. Vernon Community College to allow students from High School District No. 201 the opportunity to receive post-secondary education similar to university curriculum. Authorized by the Illinois General Assembly and signed by Illinois Governor Otto Kerner, Jr. in 1961, the legislation enacted created the Illinois Board of Higher Education (IBHE). The IBHE was tasked by statute with formulating a Master Plan for Higher Education in the state of Illinois. In July 1964 the higher education master plan was published by the IBHE, which led to the Junior College Act of 1965. The men's 100 metres competition at the 2012 Summer Olympics in London, United Kingdom was held at the Olympic Stadium on 4–5 August 2012. Seventy-four athletes from 61 nations competed. Each nation was limited to 3 athletes per rules in force since the 1930 Olympic Congress. The competition comprised four rounds: a preliminary round for entrants without the minimum qualifying standard, a heats round, followed by three semi-finals of eight athletes each, which then reduced to eight athletes for the final. Just before the start of the final, a spectator threw a plastic bottle into Tyson Gay's lane, intended to hit Usain Bolt who was three lanes outside in Lane 7. The Diamond League is an annual series of elite track and field athletic competitions comprising fourteen of the best invitational athletics meetings. The series sits in the top tier of the World Athletics (formerly known as the IAAF) one-day meeting competitions. The inaugural season was in 2010. The 100 metres, or 100-meter dash, is a sprint race in track and field competitions. The shortest common outdoor running distance, the dash is one of the most popular and prestigious events in the sport of athletics.
