Rutgers Scarlet Knights Men's Soccer
The Rutgers Scarlet Knights men's soccer team is a varsity intercollegiate athletic team of Rutgers University–New Brunswick in New Brunswick, New Jersey, United States. The team is a member of the Big Ten Conference, which is part of the National Collegiate Athletic Association's Division I. Rutgers's first varsity's men's soccer team was fielded in 1938, although organized soccer has been played at the university since at least 1869. The team plays its home games at Yurcak Field in New Brunswick. The Knights are coached by Jim McElderry. Billy Walsh (soccer, Born 1972)
Billy Walsh (born October 7, 1972) is a former American soccer player and coach. Walsh played high school soccer at Chatham High School. In 1999, he was named by ''The Star-Ledger'' as one of the top ten New Jersey high school soccer players of the 1990s. Walsh played college soccer at the University of Virginia and Rutgers. In 1996, he was the only collegian on the U.S. team that competed in the Atlanta Olympics. Walsh was drafted by the MetroStars of Major League Soccer in the second round of the 1998 MLS College Draft. He played four years for the club, mostly at defensive midfielder, and was named the team MVP in 1999. After the 2001 season, he was waived and spent 2002 with the Chicago Fire. Peter Vermes
Peter Joseph Vermes (; born November 21, 1966) is an American professional soccer coach and former player. He is currently the head coach of Sporting Kansas City in Major League Soccer. As of 2022, Vermes is currently the longest-tenured head coach in MLS and has won four major trophies as a manager, the second most of all active coaches in MLS. As a player, Vermes spent several seasons playing in Hungary, the Netherlands, before establishing himself as a defender in Major League Soccer, playing for MetroStars, Colorado Rapids and the Kansas City Wizards. Herb Schmidt
Herbert Schmidt is a retired American soccer and lacrosse player and coach. He holds the second most career men's NCAA goals and the most by an American player. Player Schmidt grew up in Summit, New Jersey and graduated from Summit High School where he played basketball and was captain of the 1957 boys' soccer team. He then attended Rutgers University where he was a 1960 First Team and 1961 Honorable Mention All American soccer player. He was also a two-time Lacrosse All-American. Steve Rammel
Steve Rammel (born April 20, 1968) is a retired American soccer player who played as a forward. Rammel spent five seasons in the U.S. and German lower divisions before playing two seasons in Major League Soccer. After retiring from playing in 1997, he served for many years as both an assistant and head coach for both college and professional teams. He was previously the executive director for the West Florida Flames Futbol Club in Brandon, Florida. David Masur (born January 10, 1962 in Maplewood, New Jersey) is a retired American soccer midfielder who played professionally in the Major Indoor Soccer League, American Professional Soccer League and USISL. He is the head coach of the St. John's University men's soccer team. He was the 1996 NCAA Division I Coach of the Year and led the Red Storm to the 1996 NCAA national championship. Panayotis Alexander "Alexi" Lalas ( el, Αλέξης Λάλας; born June 1, 1970) is an American retired soccer player who played mostly as a defender. Lalas is best known for his participation with the United States men's national soccer team in the 1994 FIFA World Cup, where he was a standout player on the team with his distinctive long beard and hair. Dan Donigan (born August 3, 1966) is a retired United States soccer forward and former coach who played professionally in the Major Indoor Soccer League, American Professional Soccer League and National Professional Soccer League. Big East Conference (1979–2013)
The Big East Conference was a collegiate athletics conference that consisted of as many as 16 universities in the eastern half of the United States from 1979 to 2013. The conference's members participated in 24 NCAA sports. The conference had a history of success at the national level in basketball throughout its history, while its shorter (1991 to 2013) football program, created by inviting one college and four other "associate members" (their football programs only) into the conference, resulted in two national championships.
