Russian Championship XVII
The Russian Championship XVII was the seventeenth season of the Russian Championship league, the major rugby league tournament for semi-professional clubs in Russia, taking place in 2007. Eight teams from across Russia took part in the competition. The league is governed by the Russian Rugby League Federation. Format Round Robin Stage Teams play each other once at home, and then once away. Play-Off Stage The teams finishing 1st and 2nd during the Round Robin Stage, play until they earn two victories for the 1st place. Also the teams finishing 3rd and 4th during the Round Stage, play until they earn two victories for the 3rd place. Russian Championship (rugby)
The Russian Championship (sometimes referred to as the Russian Super League or the Championship of Russia) is the major rugby league tournament for clubs in Russia. Currently six teams from across Russia compete in this competition. The league is governed by the Russian Rugby League. It was established in 1991 to form a national rugby league competition from the many amateur and semi-professional leagues in Moscow, Kazan and other districts of Russia. An attempt was made to organize and register a national competition during the USSR era, but permission was denied on the basis of the professional status of the game. Rugby league football, commonly known as just rugby league and sometimes football, footy, rugby or league, is a full-contact sport played by two teams of thirteen players on a rectangular field measuring 68 metres (75 yards) wide and 112–122 metres (122 to 133 yards) long with H shaped posts at both ends. RC Lokomotiv Moscow
RC Lokomotiv Moscow is a professional Russian rugby football club based in Moscow, which from 2010 will field teams in both rugby league and rugby union. The club is one of the oldest in Russia. Originally a club for those who worked on the railways, they participated in the first USSR rugby union championship in 1937. Lokomotiv were Soviet Championship winners in 1983. During the existence of the USSR, RC Lokomotiv Moscow club was a part of the Lokomotiv Voluntary Sports Society. In 1991, following York City Knights and Fulham's tour to the country, the club switched from rugby union to rugby league, owing mostly to rugby union's amateur status at the time, and the desire by players to be paid. Lokomotiv have gone on to dominate Russian rugby league. They have won seven Championships, including league and cup doubles in 2002–2005. Kazan Arrows
Kazan Arrows, sometimes called Strela Kazan, are a rugby league and rugby union club from Kazan, Tatarstan in Russia. They were formed in 1989 and play in the Russian Championship, the top-tier of rugby league in Russia. Since late 2009 they have decided to run their senior team as a rugby union team Russian Championship They won their first piece of silverware in 1993, and from 1995 through to 1999 became the best club in Russia having won the Russian Championship in each of those years. In 2000 they had a bad season but returned in 2001 to retrieve their trophy. But they then lost it again in 2002. Vereya Bears
Vereya Bears are a rugby league team from Vereya, Moscow Oblast. The club was first formed in 1995 and now play in the Russian Championship. Home matches are played at the Vereya Stadium. Formation Following the arrival of rugby league in Moscow in 1991, the sport began to grow outwards. Vereya were established in 1995 as part of this expansion, but did not register until 1998. They adopted the name "Bears". Russian Championship The club debuted in Russian Championship XII and finished fourth. Since then they have hovered around that place. The Bears have never been able to break up the stronger Moscow clubs until Russian Championship XVII when they finished second. Rugby league is a team sport in Russia. The Russian Association of Rugby League Clubs (ARLK) is the governing body of rugby league in Russia. After the 2022 Russian invasion of Ukraine, the International Rugby League and European Rugby League banned Russia from all international rugby league competitions. Russia National Rugby League Team
The Russia national rugby league team (also known as The Bears) represent Russia in international rugby league tournaments and other rugby league fixtures. The Bears, played their first fixtures against two British club sides: York Wasps and Fulham RLFC. In 2013, Russia became a full member of the Rugby League International Federation.
