Russ Thyret
Russ Thyret (1944 – February 12, 2021) was an American music industry executive. He was the chairman and CEO of Warner Bros. Records from 1995 to 2001. At the time of his appointment, he had worked for the company for more than 20 years in positions which included running the Warner Bros. Records sales, marketing, and promotion departments. He is noted for his involvement with artists including Prince, whom he signed, in addition to Devo, John Fogerty, R.E.M. and others. Devo (, originally ) is an American rock band from Akron, Ohio, formed in 1973. Their classic line-up consisted of two sets of brothers, the Mothersbaughs (Mark and Bob) and the Casales (Gerald and Bob), along with Alan Myers. The band had a No. 14 ''Billboard'' chart hit in 1980 with the single " Whip It", the song that gave the band mainstream popularity. John Cameron Fogerty (born May 28, 1945) is an American singer, songwriter and guitarist. Together with Doug Clifford, Stu Cook, and his brother Tom Fogerty Thomas Richard Fogerty (November 9, 1941 – September 6, 1990) was an American musician, best known as the rhythm guitarist for Creedence Clearwater Revival. Maverick was an American entertainment company founded in 1992 by Madonna, Frederick DeMann, and Veronica "Ronnie" Dashev, and formerly owned and operated by Warner Music Group. Qwest Records is the American record label started by Quincy Jones in 1980 as a joint venture with Warner Bros. Records, and owned by Warner Music Group, although Jones was still under contract with A&M Records through 1981. George Benson's 1980 '' Give Me the Night'' LP was the first release on Qwest, although it was shared with Warner Bros. Records, where Benson was under contract. Luaka Bop is a New York–based record label founded by musician David Byrne, former lead singer and guitarist for the art rock– new wave band Talking Heads.
