Rushford, Norfolk
Rushford is a small village in the English county of Norfolk. It is situated on the north bank of the River Little Ouse, east of the town of Thetford and south of the main A1066 road. The river forms the boundary between Norfolk and Suffolk and, until 1894, Rushford was in both counties. Rushford Hall is south of the river and thus in Suffolk. The population of the village is included in the civil parish of Brettenham. Filming for the film ''Witchfinder General'' starring Vincent Price and Ian Ogilvy took place here in 1967. The village's name means 'Rush enclosure'. Salford Priors is a rural, agricultural village and civil parish about four miles south-west of Alcester, Warwickshire, England. The population of the civil parish as taken at the 2011 census was 1,546. It is on the Warwickshire border with Worcestershire. The village is eight miles from the popular tourist town of Stratford upon Avon, the birthplace of William Shakespeare, and the River Avon runs near to it. Evesham lies seven miles to the south-west and is an important agricultural centre and soft fruit-growing area. The population of the Salford Priors ward – which includes the communities of Abbot's Salford, Dunnington, Iron Cross, Pitchill, Rushford and Mudwalls – was 1,492 at the 2001 census. Rushford is a city in Fillmore County, Minnesota, United States. The population was 1,860 at the 2020 census. History The first pioneers pole-boated up the Root River to the junction of Rush Creek, peering through 10-foot tall grasses to see what astonishing beauty the bluff lands had to offer. The early settlers gave Rushford its name on Christmas Day in 1854, during a chicken supper hosted by Capt. Dyer. The name stems from the nearby Rush Creek, which had tall Rushes growing along its banks. The area was once referred to as “Trail City” because seven Indian trails met at the creek. The Wieser Brothers were said to be the first founders of the city and quickly followed by hundreds. Rushford has had a post office in operation since 1856, and the 1867 two-story Railroad Depot still stands at its original site, being restored as a Visitors Center for the local area. Rushford is a town in Allegany County, New York, United States. The population was 1,085 at the 2020 census. Rushford is in the northwest part of Allegany County and is northeast of Olean. History The first settlersEnos Gary and two of his children arrived in 1808. The town of Rushford was formed in 1816 from part of the town of Caneadea. Part of Rushford was taken to form the newer town of New Hudson in 1825. Rushford is a census-designated place comprising the central settlement in the town of Rushford, Allegany County, New York, United States. As of the 2010 census, it had a population of 363, out of a total population of 1,150 in the town. Geography The Rushford CDP is located near the center of Rushford, north of Caneadea Creek, a tributary of the Genesee River. New York State Route 243 bypasses the center of the community, forming the northeast edge of the CDP. It leads east to Route 19 in the Genesee River valley and northwest into Cattaraugus County.
