Rurouni Kenshin (2012 Film)
(also known as ''Rurouni Kenshin: Origins'' in North America) is a 2012 Japanese historical drama, period Action film, action-adventure film based on the Rurouni Kenshin, manga of the same name written and illustrated by Nobuhiro Watsuki. Directed by Keishi Ōtomo, the film stars Takeru Satoh and Emi Takei. It focuses on fictional events that take place during the early Meiji period in Japan, telling the story of a wanderer named Himura Kenshin, formerly known as the assassin ''Four Hitokiri of the Bakumatsu, Hitokiri Battōsai''. After participating in the Bakumatsu war, Kenshin wanders the countryside of Japan offering protection and aid to those in need as atonement for the murders he once committed. Rumors circulated of a live-action adaptation of the manga before it was announced. Keishi Ōtomo
is a Japanese film director and screenwriter. He is known for psychological thrillers and historical dramas, as well as adapting a variety of manga and novels to film, including ''The Vulture''  (2009), ''Ryōmaden'' (2010), and the ''Rurouni Kenshin'' film series. Ōtomo’s awards include the Audience Award at the 18th Fantasia International Film Festival in Montreal (2014), the Popularity Award at the 38th Japanese Academy Awards (2014), and Best Director at the 31st Japanese Critics Award (2022). Kamiya Kaoru
, known as Kaoru Kamiya in the Media Blasters English-language dub and Kori Kamiya in the English Sony ''Samurai X'' dub, is a fictional character in the ''Rurouni Kenshin'' manga created by Nobuhiro Watsuki. In the story Kaoru is the instructor of a kendo school in Tokyo, . The students leave when many people are killed by someone claiming to be the from the ''Kamiya Kasshin-ryū''", damaging the school's reputation. Takeda Kanryū
The manga series ''Rurouni Kenshin'' features a large cast of character (arts), fictional characters created by Nobuhiro Watsuki. Set in Japan during the Meiji period, several of the characters are real historical figures who interact with the fictional characters.
