Run-DMC (also spelled Run-D.M.C.) was an American hip hop group from Hollis, Queens, New York City, founded in 1983 by Joseph Simmons, Darryl McDaniels, and Jason Mizell. Run-DMC is regarded as one of the most influential acts in the history of hip hop culture and one of the most famous hip hop acts of the 1980s. Along with Beastie Boys, LL Cool J and Public Enemy, the group pioneered new school hip hop music. The group was among the first to highlight the importance of the MC and DJ relationship. With the release ''Run-D.M.C.'' (1984), Run-DMC became the first hip hop group to achieve a Gold record. ''Run-D.M.C.'' was followed with the certified Platinum record ''King of Rock'' (1985), making Run-DMC the first hip hop group to achieve this. ''King of Rock'' is the second studio album by American hip hop music, hip hop group Run-D.M.C., released on January 21, 1985, by Profile Records. The album was produced by Russell Simmons and Larry Smith (producer), Larry Smith. ''King of Rock'' became the first rap album released on CD. The album saw the group adopting a more rock music, rock-influenced sound, with several tracks prominently featuring heavy guitar riffs. The song "Roots, Rap, Reggae" features Yellowman, and was one of the first hybrids of rap and dancehall. ''King of Rock'' peaked at number 52 on the Billboard 200, ''Billboard'' 200, and number 12 on the Top R&B/Hip Hop Albums chart. The album was first certified as gold certification, Gold on June 3, 1985, before it was certified as platinum certification, Platinum by the RIAA on February 18, 1987. ''Raising Hell'' is the third studio album by American hip hop group Run-D.M.C., released on May 15, 1986, by Profile Records. The album was produced by Russell Simmons and Rick Rubin. ''Raising Hell'' became the first Platinum and multi-Platinum hip hop record. The album was first certified as Platinum on July 15, 1986, before it was certified as 3× Platinum by the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA) on April 24, 1987. ''Raising Hell'' peaked at number three on the ''Billboard'' 200, and number one on the Top R&B/Hip Hop Albums chart making it the first hip hop record reach atop the latter. New School Hip Hop
The new school of hip hop was a movement in hip hop music, beginning in 1983–84 with the early records of Run–D.M.C. and LL Cool J. Predominantly from New York City, it was characterized by drum machine-led minimalism, often tinged with elements of rock music, rock; rapping, rapped taunts, boasts, and socio-political commentary; and aggressive, self-assertive delivery. In song and image, its artists projected a tough, cool, street b-boy attitude. These elements contrasted sharply with funk and disco, novelty hits, live bands, synthesizers, and party rhymes of artists prevalent in the early 1980s. Compared to their older hip hop counterparts, new school artists crafted more cohesive LP record, LPs and shorter songs more amenable to airplay. By 1986, their releases began to establish hip hop in the mainstream. Walk This Way
"Walk This Way" is a song by the American rock band Aerosmith. Written by Steven Tyler and Joe Perry, the song was originally released as the second single from the album '' Toys in the Attic'' (1975). It peaked at number 10 on the ''Billboard'' Hot 100 in early 1977, part of a string of successful hit singles for the band in the 1970s. In addition to being one of the songs that helped break Aerosmith into the mainstream in the 1970s, it also helped revitalize their career in the 1980s when it was covered by hip hop group Run-D.M.C. (in collaboration with Aerosmith) on their 1986 album '' Raising Hell''. This cover was a touchstone for the new musical subgenre of rap rock, or the melding of rock and hip hop.
