Rugby sevens, for the 2013 Pacific Mini Games, was held at Kafika Stadium in Mata-Utu, Wallis and Futuna. The men's tournament was contested by seven Pacific countries. There was no women's tournament for this sport at these games. The competitions took place on the 10 and 11 September 2013. Mata Utu (; ʻUvean: Matāutu, ) is the capital city of Wallis and Futuna, an overseas collectivity of France. It is located on the island of Uvéa (Uvea), in the district of Hahake, of which it is also the capital. It is one of two ports in Wallis and Futuna, the other being at Leava on Futuna. Rugby Sevens At The 2017 Pacific Mini Games
Rugby sevens at the 2017 Pacific Mini Games was held in Port Vila, Vanuatu at the Korman Stadium, from 8 to 9 December 2017. There was no women's tournament for this sport at these games. The competition also doubled as the final Oceania qualifying spot to the 2018 Rugby World Cup Sevens in San Francisco. Samoa edged Fiji to win the gold medal. Tonga beat the Solomon Islands for the bronze medal. Since Fiji and Samoa had already qualified for the 2018 Rugby World Cup Sevens, the final World Cup spot went to Tonga. Rugby Sevens At The Pacific Games
Rugby union at the Pacific Games has been contested since 1963 when included as one of ten sports at the first games held in Suva, Fiji. Rugby sevens is the form of rugby now played at the Pacific Games, with men's and women's tournaments (for 7-a-side teams) included in the current schedule. The women's competition was added for the first time at the 2011 Pacific Games held in Nouméa. Prior to the late 1990s the men's tournament at the South Pacific Games, as it was then known, was contested by national rugby union teams (i.e. 15-a-side). The shorter tournament structure of rugby sevens being better suited to multi-sports events led to the change of format. In 2014, Australia and New Zealand were invited to participate in some events for the 2015 Pacific Games, and the Australian women's sevens team was subsequently confirmed as a competitor for the women's tournament in Port Moresby.
