Rugby League In Bosnia And Herzegovina
Rugby league is played in Bosnia and Herzegovina, which now has over 1000 registered players nationwide, many of which are juniors. These numbers are rapidly increasing each year. History In 2012, following the formation of the first club in Republika Srpska, one of the two entities in Bosnia and Herzegovina, a second club was formed in the city of Novi Grad, named New Thunder RLFC. Three coaches from the area took part in the Serbian Rugby League Federation Level 1 course in the middle of August, with them then overseeing the first ever domestic rugby league game in the Republic of Srpska and Bosnia and Herzegovina at Novi Grad Mlakve stadium, home of FC Sloboda Novi Grad. Dimitris Dajc refereed the game watched by around 300 curious locals, between New Thunder and the splendidly named White Rabbits, with the home team winning 28-20 in a very competitive game despite the visitors greater experience. The political divisions of Bosnia and Herzegovina were created by the Dayton Agreement. The Agreement divides the country into two federal entities: the Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina (FBiH) and the Republika Srpska (RS) and one additional entity (condominium) named the Brčko District. The Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina (FBiH) is composed of mostly Bosniaks and Croats, while the Republika Srpska (RS) is composed of mostly Serbs. The European Rugby League (ERL) is the umbrella body for nations playing the sport of rugby league football across Europe. In the absence of other continental federations, ERL also controls rugby league in North America (including Central America), the Middle East and Africa. Bosnia And Herzegovina National Rugby League Team
The Bosnia national rugby league team represents Bosnia and Herzegovina in the sport of rugby league football and have been participating in international competition since 2014. History Bosnia participated in the Balkans Cup competition in 2014. But their matches weren't rated as official international matches as the national association has yet to apply for RLEF membership. They won their first "Unofficial" match against Hungary by 32-6 in the Third Place play off match of the 2014 Balkans Cup tournament. 2014 Balkans Cup (rugby League)
The 2014 Balkans Cup was a rugby league football tournament that was held in Serbia between 17 October and 19 October. The winner won the inaugural Balkans Cup Trophy. Four teams competed in the 2014 event. These teams were: Serbia, Greece, Hungary and Bosnia. After winning the European Championship C a week before the tournament began, Greece transferred their form to the tournament and were crowned inaugural Balkans Cup winners after defeating Bosnia and then Serbia in the final.
