Rugby Nice Côte d'Azur Université-Racing was a French rugby union club, which went into liquidation in June 2012. Nice was founded in 1912, as Racing Rugby Club de Nice. Nice was runner-up in the national championship in the 1982-83 season. In 1985 Nice won the Challenge Yves du Manoir. Its successor is the new club, Stade Niçois. The Top 14 () is a professional rugby union club competition that is played in France. Created in 1892, the Top 14 is at the top of the national league system operated by the French National Rugby League, also known by its French initialism of LNR. There is promotion and relegation between the Top 14 and the next level down, the Rugby Pro D2. The fourteen best rugby teams in France participate in the competition, hence the name Top 14. The Challenge Yves du Manoir was a rugby union club competition that was played in France between 1931 and 2003 under different names. It is named after former player Yves du Manoir. History The Challenge Yves du Manoir was officially created on September 21, 1931, by Racing Club de France with the support of two other clubs, CA Bègles and ASM Clermont Auvergne, AS Montferrand. In 1931, twelve breakaway clubs had decided to create their own league (UFRA, Union Française du Rugby Amateur) to protest against violence and covert professionalism which French rugby had sunk into, and which had resulted in the exclusion of France from the Six Nations Championship, Five Nations Tournament that year. Stade Niçois is a French amateur rugby club based in Nice, founded in 2012. It currently operates in Nationale, one division below the French professional Top14 and Pro D2 leagues.
