''Rugby League'' is a rugby league video game series developed by Sidhe Interactive, Wicked Witch Software, and Big Ant Studios. The first games was ''Rugby League'', released on 9 December 2003. The latest game released was '' Rugby League Live 4'', released on 20 July 2017 for PlayStation 4 and Xbox One. History Tru Blu Entertainment has published several major Southern Hemisphere-focused rugby league games since the release of its first three rugby league video games: ''E.T.'s Rugby League'' in 1992, ''Australian Rugby League'' in 1995, and ''ARL '96'' in 1996. The ''Rugby League'' franchise started in 2003 when ''Rugby League'' was released by Sidhe Interactive and Tru Blu Entertainment. Sidhe (formerly Sidhe Interactive until 2009) is a New Zealand video game company headquartered in Wellington, and a co-founding member of the New Zealand Game Developers Association and the New Zealand Institute of Screen Innovation. ''Rugby League Live 4'' is a video game developed by Big Ant and published by Tru Blu, part of the ''Rugby League'' video game series. The game was released on 28 July 2017 for consoles in Australia and was announced in conjunction with the NRL. It is available on Xbox One, PlayStation 4 and PC Steam, which was released on 13 September 2017. Rugby League Challenge
''Rugby League Challenge'' is a sport simulation game for the PlayStation Portable based on the National Rugby League and the Super League. The game was developed by Australian game developer Wicked Witch Software and was published by Tru Blu Entertainment. The game is based on the 2009 NRL season and Super League XIV. It features all 16 NRL teams and 14 Super League teams. Gameplay Rugby League Challenge allows players to play through the entire season, through to the Grand Final. It features a team management system where players can be trained up in skills such as kicking, tackling and running. The game also features a quick match mode, as well as the season mode. Multiple camera angles are available to choose from both in the options menu and while playing the game. Camera angles range from close behind the player to wide zooms showing most of the stadium. ''NRL Mascot Mania'' is a National Rugby League video game, developed by Wicked Witch Software for Nintendo DS. It was released in July 2009. Production The games focus more on the mythology of the League's Mascots than on the sport itself. The central component of the game is the adventure the players Mascot will experience in the themed worlds. As such, it is aimed at the younger fans of Rugby League. Managing Director of Wicked Witch Software, Daniel Visser, says that, while the games share style and genre, they both have several unique worlds, trading card sets, and mini games and, of course, each leagues sports game to unlock. National Rugby League
The National Rugby League (NRL) is an Australasian rugby league club competition which contains clubs from New South Wales, Queensland, Victoria, the Australian Capital Territory and New Zealand. The NRL formed in 1998 as a joint partnership between the Australian Rugby League (ARL) and media giant News Corporation-controlled Super League, in the aftermath of the 1990s Super League war, in which both ran parallel to each other in 1997. The partnership was dissolved in 2012, with control of the NRL going to the re-constituted ARL, which was re-structured with an independent board of directors and renamed the Australian Rugby League Commission. Rugby League Live 3 is a sports game in the Rugby League series of Rugby League video games. Rugby League Live 3 was released on PlayStation 3, PlayStation 4, Xbox 360 and Xbox One. Although originally announced for a Q2 2015 release, publisher, Tru Blu Entertainment has since announced that the initial release would not be met. Big Ant Studios said that when the game releases, it would be available globally. The official trailer was released on 14 August along with a launch date of 10 September 2015, confirmed by Big Ant Studios and Sony Australia. This was later confirmed by Tru Blu Entertainment on 17 August. Tru Blu Entertainment announced that old generation platforms (PS3 and Xbox 360) would not be released until 24 September 2015. It was released in Australia on September 2, New Zealand on August 27, and United Kingdom and France on November 5, 2010 for PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360. The Microsoft Windows port of game was released in February 2011. Version 5 was rumored to be released in March, 2020, however this appears to have been delayed. Development The title was developed by Australian company Big Ant Studios and published in Australia by Tru Blu Entertainment. Developers of the preceding title Sidhe Interactive stated on their online forum that they supported the new developers by providing commentary, stadium and motion capture data (which may or may not have been used) as well as QA testing.
