Rugby (borough)
The Borough of Rugby is a local government district with borough status in eastern Warwickshire, England. The borough comprises the town of Rugby where the council has its headquarters, and the rural areas surrounding the town. The borough has a population of 114,400 (2021). Of which, 78,125 live in Rugby itself and the remainder living in the surrounding areas. Aside from Rugby itself, more notable settlements include Binley Woods, Brinklow, Clifton-upon-Dunsmore, Dunchurch, Long Lawford, Monks Kirby, Ryton-on-Dunsmore, Stretton-on-Dunsmore and Wolston, and the new large development of Houlton. The borough stretches from Coventry to the west, to the borders with Northamptonshire and Leicestershire to the east. It borders the Warwickshire districts of Warwick to the south-west, Stratford to the south, and Nuneaton and Bedworth to the north-west. Elections to Rugby Borough Council were held on 4 May 2000. One third of the council seats were up for election. The council stayed under no overall control. The number of councillors for each party after the election were Labour eighteen, Conservative fourteen, Liberal Democrat nine and Independent seven. David Barby
David John Barby, FRICS (23 April 1943 – 25 July 2012) was an English antiques expert, known for his appearances on ''Bargain Hunt, Flog It!'' and similar BBC antiques television programmes. Career Born in Rugby, Warwickshire, he was interested in antiques from age 12, which led to his joining the profession on leaving school. He qualified aged 21 as a member of the Incorporated Society of Valuers and Auctioneers, which merged with the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors in 2000. Barby started working for a local firm in Rugby, before leaving to work in London in 1974. He was head hunted by Royal Leamington Spa-based auction house Locke and England, and he joined them in 1978 as a manager and valuer. He later became a partner, retiring from the business in 2003. Mark Pawsey
Mark Julian Francis Pawsey (born 16 January 1957) is a British politician who has served as the Member of Parliament (MP) for Rugby since the 2010 general election. He is a member of the Conservative Party. His father, Jim Pawsey, was the MP for Rugby from 1979 to 1983 and then for Rugby and Kenilworth until 1997, when he lost the seat in the general election to Labour's Andy King. On 5 December 2022 Pawsey announced his intention not to stand for re-election in the next general election. Education and early career Mark Pawsey grew up in Binley Woods, Warwickshire, England, and was educated at Lawrence Sheriff School in Rugby. He later attended the University of Reading, where he earned a degree in estate management.
