Rudolf Bergander
Rudolf Bergander (22 May 1909, Meißen — 10 April 1970, Dresden) was a German painter and principal of the Dresden Academy of Fine Arts from 1952 to 1958 and 1964–65. He was a member of the Association of Revolutionary Visual Artists. Life Bergander trained as a porcelain painter, graduating in 1923, and worked in the Meissen state porcelain manufactury. From 1928 to 1932 he studied at the Dresden Academy of Fine Arts with Richard Müller and Otto Dix. In 1928 he joined the KPD, and in 1929 became a member of the Association of Revolutionary Visual Artists. From 1933 to 1940 he lived as a freelance artist in Meissen. In 1940 he joined the Nazi Party. By 1945, he was a cartographer in the Wehrmacht. After the war, in 1946 Bergander joined the Socialist Unity Party of Germany. In 1947 he became a member of the Dresden artist group "Das Ufer" ("The Shore"). He freelanced until he became a lecturer on painting at the Academy of Fine Arts DDR in 1949. Meissen (in German orthography: ''Meißen'', ) is a town of approximately 30,000 about northwest of Dresden on both banks of the Elbe river in the Free State of Saxony, in eastern Germany. Neues Deutschland
''Neues Deutschland'' (''nd''; en, New Germany, sometimes stylized in lowercase letters) is a left-wing German daily newspaper, headquartered in Berlin. For 43 years it was the official party newspaper of the Socialist Unity Party of Germany (SED), which governed East Germany (officially known as the German Democratic Republic), and as such served as one of the party's most important organs. It originally had a Stalinist political stance; it retained a Marxist-Leninist stance until German reunification in 1990. The ''Neues Deutschland'' that existed in East Germany had a circulation of 1.1 million as of 1989 and was the communist party's main way to show citizens its stances and opinions about politics, economics, etc. It was regarded by foreign countries as the communist regime's diplomatic voice. Banner Of Labor
The Banner of Labor () was an order issued in the German Democratic Republic (GDR). It was given for "excellent and long-standing service in strengthening and consolidating the GDR, especially for achieving outstanding results for the national economy". The order was established on 4 August 1954 in one class. On 8 August 1974 it was divided into three classes.
