Rudd Center For Food Policy And Health
The Rudd Center for Food Policy and Health, formerly named the Rudd Center for Food Policy and Obesity, is a non-profit research and public policy organization that promotes solutions to Food security, food insecurity, poor diet quality, and weight bias. Located in Hartford, Connecticut at The University of Connecticut, the Rudd Center was co-founded in March 2005 at Yale University by benefactor Leslie Rudd and Kelly D. Brownell. The Rudd Center moved from Yale to the University of Connecticut in December 2014. Weight bias and stigma The Rudd Center's research and policy efforts aimed at reducing weight bias are led by Deputy Director Dr. Rebecca Puhl. Her work shows that 40% of U.S. adults have reported experiences of weight-based teasing, unfair treatment, and discrimination. Food marketing In the United States, nearly $14 billion is spent per year on advertising by food, beverage, and restaurant companies, and much of this marketing promotes nutritionally poor foods. ...

Marlene Schwartz
Marlene B. Schwartz is the current director of the Rudd Center for Food Policy and Health at the University of Connecticut. Education Schwartz grew up in Columbia, Maryland. She received her bachelor's degree from Haverford College in 1988. She then attended Yale University, where she received her master's degree in 1992, her M.Phil. in 1993, and her Ph.D. in 1996. Career From 1996 to 2006, Schwartz was the co-director of the Yale Center for Eating and Weight Disorders. She then served as the associate director of the Rudd Center prior to July 2013, when she was announced as the next director of the Center, replacing Kelly D. Brownell. Rebecca Puhl
Rebecca M. Puhl is a researcher in the field of weight bias. Biography Puhl received her bachelor's degree from Queen's University in Canada in 1999. She then attended Yale University, where she received her master's degree in Psychology in 2001 and her Ph.D. in Clinical Psychology in 2004. She is a professor in the Department of Human Development and Family Sciences and deputy director of the Rudd Center for Food Policy and Health at the University of Connecticut. Puhl's research focuses on weight-based bullying, discrimination and bias. Furthermore, she examines the health effects of weight bias and works to develop evidence-based training programs to reduce its effects. Additionally, she routinely testifies in state legislative hearings on weight bias. Throughout the course of her career, Puhl has authored over 170 peer-reviewed studies and been cited over 32,000 times. Kelly Brownell
Kelly David Brownell (born October 31, 1951) is a clinical psychologist and scholar of public health and public policy at Duke University whose work focuses on obesity and food policy. He is a former dean of Duke's Sanford School of Public Policy. Noted for his research dealing primarily with obesity prevention, as well as the intersection of behavior, environment, and health with public policy, Brownell advised former First Lady Michelle Obama's initiatives to address childhood obesity and has testified before Congress. He is credited with coining the term " yo-yo dieting", and was named as one of "The World's 100 Most Influential People" by ''Time Magazine'' in 2006. Weight Bias
Social stigma of obesity is broadly defined as bias or discriminatory behaviors targeted at overweight and obese individuals because of their weight. Such social stigmas can span one's entire life, as long as excess weight is present, starting from a young age and lasting into adulthood. Several studies from across the world (e.g., United States, University of Marburg, University of Leipzig) indicate overweight and obese individuals experience higher levels of stigma relative to their thinner counterparts. The Kelly-D is an American homebuilt aircraft that was designed by Dudley R. Kelly of Versailles, Kentucky, in 1981.
