Roland Verhavert
Roland Verhavert (1 May 1927 – 26 July 2014) was a Belgian film director. He directed 44 films between 1955 and 1993. He co-directed the 1955 film ''Seagulls Die in the Harbour'', which was entered into the 1956 Cannes Film Festival. His 1974 film ''The Conscript'' was entered into the 24th Berlin International Film Festival. Verhavert died of a heart attack aged 87 in July 2014. Belgium has submitted films for the Academy Award for Best International Feature Film since 1967. The award is handed out annually by the United States Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences to a feature-length motion picture produced outside the United States that contains primarily non-English dialogue. This is a list of submissions to the 50th Academy Awards for Best Foreign Language Film. The Academy Award for Best Foreign Language Film was created in 1956 by the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences to honour non-English-speaking films produced outside the United States. The award is handed out annually, and is accepted by the winning film's director, although it is considered an award for the submitting country as a whole. Countries are invited by the Academy to submit their best films for competition according to strict rules, with only one film being accepted from each country. For the 50th Academy Awards, twenty-four films were submitted in the category Academy Award for Best Foreign Language Film. Iran, Morocco and Venezuela entered the competition for the first time. Armand Jean du Plessis, Duke of Richelieu (; 9 September 1585 – 4 December 1642), known as Cardinal Richelieu, was a French clergyman and statesman.
