Ruben J. Ramos
Ruben J. Ramos, Jr. (born December 30, 1973) is an American Democratic Party politician who served in the New Jersey General Assembly from 2008 to 2014, representing the 33rd Legislative District. He now serves as a city councilman in Hoboken, a position he held prior to serving in the General Assembly. Ramos and his running mates won a contentious primary battle in June 2007, defeating a slate supported by the Hudson County Democratic Organization led by then-Assemblyman Silverio Vega. The youngest elected official in Hoboken history, he represented the Fourth Ward and served as city council president. ''The Jersey Journal'' is a daily newspaper, published from Monday through Saturday, covering news and events throughout Hudson County, New Jersey. ''The Journal'' is a sister paper to ''The Star-Ledger'' of Newark, ''The Times'' of Trenton and the '' Staten Island Advance'', all of which are owned by Advance Publications, which bought the paper in 1945. History Founded by Civil War veterans William Dunning and Z. K. Pangborn, the ''Jersey Journal'' was originally known as the ''Evening Journal'' and was first published on May 2, 1867. The newspaper's first offices were located at 13 Exchange Place in Jersey City with a reported initial capitalization of $119. Dawn Zimmer (born April 16, 1968) is an American politician who served as the 38th mayor of Hoboken, New Jersey. As president of the Hoboken City Council, she became acting mayor after incumbent Peter Cammarano's resignation on July 31, 2009 following his arrest on corruption charges. Zimmer is the first female mayor of Hoboken. She was first elected mayor in a special election for the balance of Cammarano's term on November 6, 2009 and was re-elected mayor for another four-year term in November 2013. New Jersey Senate
The New Jersey Senate was established as the upper house of the New Jersey Legislature by the Constitution of 1844, replacing the Legislative Council. There are 40 legislative districts, representing districts with an average population of 232,225 (2020 figure). Each district has one senator and two members of the New Jersey General Assembly, the lower house of the legislature. Prior to the election in which they are chosen, senators must be a minimum of 30 years old and a resident of the state for four years to be eligible to serve in office. From 1844 until 1965 (when the ''Reynolds v. Sims'' US Supreme Court decision mandated all state legislators be elected from districts of roughly equal population), each county was an electoral district electing one senator.
