Royal Ottawa Golf Club
The Royal Ottawa Golf Club is a premier private golf club located in Gatineau, Quebec, Canada. It was founded in 1891, and has made major contributions to the development of Canadian golf right from its early years, hosting many important championships and meetings, and continues to do so. Several significant champion golfers have been associated with the Club. The Club has 27 holes of golf. Founding, early years The Club was founded in 1891, as the Ottawa Golf Club. It was the host of founding meetings of the Royal Canadian Golf Association (in June 1895), and the Canadian Professional Golfers' Association (in July 1911). Since 1895, it has hosted many significant amateur and professional championship tournaments (see below). Canadian Open (golf)
The Canadian Open (french: L'Omnium Canadien) is a professional golf tournament in Canada. It is co-organized by Golf Canada (formerly known as the Royal Canadian Golf Association) and the PGA Tour. It was first played in 1904, and has been held annually since then, except for during World War I, World War II and the COVID-19 pandemic. It is the third oldest continuously running tournament on the tour, after The Open Championship and the U.S. Open. It is the only national championship that is a PGA Tour-managed event. Alexa Stirling Fraser
Alexa Stirling Fraser (September 5, 1897 – April 15, 1977) was an American-Canadian amateur golfer. She won the U.S. Women's Amateur golf championship in 1916, 1919, and 1920. She also won the Canadian Women's Amateur title in 1920 and 1934. Early life Born in Atlanta, Georgia, Stirling was the daughter of Dr. Alexander W. Stirling and Nora Bromley Stirling. She was coached in golf from a young age at the Atlanta Athletic Club's East Lake Golf Club course by Stewart Maiden, the club's professional, who had learned his golf at Carnoustie, Scotland. At age 13 her golf skills were already evident when on May 15, 1911, she was the low qualifier in the Women's Southern Golf Association championship. David Lambie Black (15 September 1883 – 25 March 1974) was a Scottish professional golfer. He was runner-up in the 1911 Canadian Open. Karl Keffer
Karl Kaspar Keffer (1882 – October 22, 1955) was a Canadian professional golfer. He was the first and, as of 2019, remains the only Canadian-born winner of the Canadian Open. Keffer was born in Tottenham, Ontario. He was the head professional at the Royal Ottawa Golf Club for over thirty years until his retirement in 1943 due to ill health, and was a founder member of the PGA of Canada. Until 1942, he also worked as the professional at Jekyll Island Club on Jekyll Island, Georgia during the winters. His biggest achievements as a tournament player came in the national open championship, which he won twice, in 1909 and 1914, and finished as runner-up in 1919. He also won the provincial opens of Manitoba and Quebec. Keffer has been widely recognised for his achievements and contributions to golf, highlighted by his induction into the Canadian Golf Hall of Fame in 1986.
