Royal Highland Showground
The Royal Highland Centre, originally the Royal Highland Showground, is an exhibition centre and showground located at Ingliston in the western outskirts of Edinburgh, Scotland, adjacent to Edinburgh Airport and the A8. History The Royal Highland and Agricultural Society of Scotland (RHASS) purchased the land in 1958 for £55,000, and after 2 years of infrastructure work including a new roadway and improved electrical supplies, the site was formally opened in 1960. During the 1970s and 1980s, more facilitates were built, including the Highland Hall and Countryside Area. Ingliston
Ingliston (; sco, Inglistoun) is an area in the west of Edinburgh, near Maybury, South Gyle and Newbridge, and is home to Edinburgh Airport and The Royal Highland Showground. History The name Ingliston either means the "settlement of the Inglis Family" or "English town". From 1965 to 1994 motor racing took place at Ingliston Racing Circuit, which was located within the Royal Highland Showground. From 1973 to 2005, a Sunday market was held at Ingliston. It was of one of the biggest open air markets in Europe. For many years, a feature of the market was a statue of King Kong by Nicholas Monro. Ingliston Golf Club first appeared in the 1930s. The Masters (also known as the Cazoo Masters for sponsorship purposes) is a non-ranking PDC darts tournament which features the top 24 darts players according to the PDC Order of Merit as of 2021. History The inaugural tournament, held in 2013, was won by Phil Taylor, who defeated Adrian Lewis 10–1 in the final. James Wade won the following year by defeating Mervyn King 11–10 in the 2014 final. Michael van Gerwen became the third different champion in 3 years when he defeated Raymond van Barneveld 11–6. The 2014 Unibet Masters was the second staging of the non-ranking Masters darts tournament, held by the Professional Darts Corporation (PDC). It was held between 1–2 November 2014 at the Royal Highland Centre in Edinburgh, Scotland. Phil Taylor was the defending champion, having beaten Adrian Lewis 10–1 in the inaugural tournament's final. James Wade beat Taylor 11–9 in the semi-finals. Wade got off to a slow start in the final against Mervyn King, and trailed 0–5, 1–6, 2–9 and 6–10. However, Wade won the last 5 legs to triumph 11–10, and win his first major title since the 2011 UK Open. The match distance changed this year with the first round and quarter-finals best of 19 legs.
