Royal High Corstorphine RFC
Royal High Corstorphine RFC is a former Edinburgh rugby union club, formed from the merger of the Royal HSFP and Corstorphine RFC. The merged club was dissolved in 2017 as two clubs:- Corstorphine Cougars and Royal HSFP. History Royal High Corstorphine was formed in 2003 from the merger of two Edinburgh rugby union sides:- Royal HSFP and Corstorphine RFC. RHC was originally planned as a bilateral club based both in Royal HSFP's Barnton ground and Corstorphine RFC's Union Park. The club had a very successful women's side that produced several Scotland international players. Dissolve of club As time passed more and more matches were being played in Barnton; eventually the 1st XV playing in Barnton and the 2nd XV played in Union Park. This highlighted differences between the two factions on how a club should be run and the merged club was dissolved into two clubs. The cougar (''Puma concolor'') is a large Felidae, cat native to the Americas. Royal HSFP
Royal High School Former Pupils was a former Edinburgh rugby union club; but the club was re-formed as Barnton RFC and is now known as Royal High RFC. Royal HSFP was a founder member of the Scottish Rugby Union, the second oldest national governing body in the world. The original club was disbanded in 2003 when it merged with Corstorphine RFC but the merged club Royal High Corstorphine broke back into two clubs in 2017. These new clubs were known as Corstorphine Cougars and Barnton RFC. Barnton RFC was the start of an attempt to revive the old Royal HSFP side. The club is now known as Royal High RFC. Corstorphine (Scottish Gaelic: ''Crois Thoirfinn'') ( ) is an area of the Scottish capital city of Edinburgh. Formerly a separate village and parish to the west of Edinburgh, it is now a suburb of the city, having been formally incorporated into it in 1920. Corstorphine has a high street with many independent small shops, although a number have closed in recent years since the opening of several retail parks to the west of Edinburgh, especially the Gyle Centre. Traffic on the main street, St John's Road, is often heavy, as it forms part of the A8 main road between Edinburgh and Glasgow. Edinburgh Northern Sevens is an annual rugby sevens tournament held by Edinburgh Northern, in the Inverleith district of Edinburgh, Scotland. History The first rugby sevens tournament took place in 1955 and it has been played in all subsequent years, with the exception of the coronavirus pandemic years in 2019 and 2020. Gillian McCord is a Scottish former rugby union player who played lock for Royal High Corstorphine RFC and Watsonians Ladies Rugby at a club level, and the Scotland women's national rugby union team. She made her debut as Scottish Captain against Canada in 2007. In 2019, she placed as a runner-up in the cooking competition show ''MasterChef''. Playing career During her rugby union playing career, Jilly McCord played as a lock. She initially played for Watsonians Ladies Rugby at club level.
