Royal County Of Berkshire Show
The Royal County of Berkshire Show is an annual agricultural show in Berkshire, England that started in 1909 at Enborne Gate Farm, Newbury, Berkshire, Newbury, as a horse show and has now grown to be a significant event for the farming world. The Newbury and District Agricultural Society was formed in 1909 to run the show and continues to do so. There were four breaks overall when no show took place: between 1914 and 1918 during the First World War, between 1928 and 1935 during the farming Great Depression, Depression, during the Second World War from 1939 to 1945 & 2020 on grounds of COVID-19 pandemic. Since then the Show has grown to become one of the leading agricultural shows in the country. The show takes place over two days in September at the permanent showground near Chieveley. Berkshire
Berkshire ( ; in the 17th century sometimes spelt phonetically as Barkeshire; abbreviated Berks.) is a historic county in South East England. One of the home counties, Berkshire was recognised by Queen Elizabeth II as the Royal County of Berkshire in 1957 because of the presence of Windsor Castle, and letters patent were issued in 1974. Newbury, Berkshire
Newbury is a market town in the county of Berkshire, England, and is home to the administrative headquarters of West Berkshire Council. Chieveley
Chieveley is a village and large civil parish centred north of Newbury in Berkshire, close to the M4 motorway and A34 road. Chieveley services are within the parish. Geography A map of 1877 gave the area as . The landscape is of gently rolling chalk hills. The land is predominantly arable with some dairy, sheep and pigs. There is a healthy quantity of woodland and abundant wildlife. There is a network of green lanes and footpaths that afford good walking. The northern end of Chieveley village is known as Downend. As well as Chieveley, the civil parish also consists of the village of Curridge and the hamlets of Oare and Snelsmore Common. The original parish also included Leckhampstead and Winterbourne as well.
