Royal Agricultural Society Of NSW
The Royal Agricultural Society of New South Wales was founded on 5 July 1822, when a group of Sydney's leading citizens formed the Agricultural Society of NSW, and is "a not-for-profit organisation committed to supporting agricultural development and rural communities in Australia." The society has been responsible for holding the Sydney Royal Easter Show since 1823. History Eleven officers were elected and the Society staged its first Show at Parramatta in 1823. However the Society lapsed in 1834 due to the pressure of drought and economic depression, but re-formed in 1857 under the name of the ‘Cumberland Agricultural Society.’ In 1859 the Society renamed itself the Agricultural Society of NSW. The Society's Shows, known at the time as Exhibitions, were held at Parramatta until 1868 and subsequently moved to Prince Alfred Park. Sydney Olympic Park
Sydney Olympic Park is a suburb of Greater Western Sydney, located 13 kilometres west of the Sydney central business district, in the local government area of the City of Parramatta Council. It is commonly known as Olympic Park but officially named Sydney Olympic Park. The area was part of the suburb of Lidcombe and known as "North Lidcombe", but between 1989 and 2009 was named " Homebush Bay" (part of which is now the separate suburb of Wentworth Point). Colin Sinclair (politician)
Sir Colin Archibald Sinclair (24 December 187617 March 1956) was an Australian politician. Early life Sinclair was born in Inverell, New South Wales and educated at the New England Grammar School, Armidale and the University of Sydney ( BA 1899, LLB 1905). He married Edith Grant in 1916. Sinclair was elected as the member for Namoi in the New South Wales Legislative Assembly in 1932, and was Secretary for Lands from February 1938 to November 1940, when he resigned after suggestions that he had a conflict of interest, as a result of his recent appointment as a director of the Bank of New South Wales. He did not run for re-election in Namoi in 1941. Sinclair was president of the Royal Agricultural Society of New South Wales from 1943 to 1954 and President of the Bank of New South Wales from 1952 to 1954. Sydney Royal National Poultry Show
The National Poultry Show (previously the Royal Canberra National Poultry Show) is the largest poultry show in the Southern Hemisphere, held quadrennially on the year of the Olympics and attracting exhibitors from across Australia. It was hosted in Canberra until 2014, when it transferred to Sydney in 2016 following a dispute between the Royal National Capital Agricultural Society and the Royal Agricultural Society of New South Wales (RAS NSW) over the issue of borrowing cages from RAS NSW to use for the show in Canberra. Bill Chaffey
Major William Adolphus Chaffey (18 February 1915 – 4 March 1987) was an Australian farmer, distinguished soldier and long serving member of the Parliament of New South Wales. Chaffey represented the electoral district of Tamworth from 1940 to 1973. He also served as the New South Wales Minister for Agriculture from 1965 to 1968. Chaffey succeeded his father, Frank in parliament after the latter's death, and together they served a combined fifty-nine years and nine months in the New South Wales parliament representing the New England region of New South Wales. Lord Livingstone "Livie" Ramsay (11 December 1867 – 18 July 1924) was an Australian architect active in the first quarter of the 20th century. He was known professionally as L L Ramsay. Winter David Warden (26 November 1860 – 3 June 1936) was an Australian politician and a member of the New South Wales Legislative Council for the Nationalist Party of Australia for 17 years. Early life Warden was born in Ulladulla, New South Wales, the son of David Warden, land and ship building yard owner, and Grace Buchan. His uncle, James Warden, was a Member of the Legislative Assembly.
