Roy Trotman
Sir Cardinal LeRoy Trotman, KA (born 9 May 1944) is a Barbadian trade unionist and politician. Biography Born in Bathsheba, Barbados, Trotman studied at the University of the West Indies and then Rutgers University. He worked as a teacher and university lecturer, and joined the Barbados Workers' Union (BWU). He was elected as a president of the Modern High School division of the union in the 1960s. In 1971, he began working full-time for the union, initially as personal assistant to its general secretary, Frank Walcott. In 1978, Trotman was promoted to become deputy general secretary and director of organisation for the union. He also became politically active, and in 1986 won election to the House of Assembly of Barbados, representing St Michael Central for the Democratic Labour Party (DLP). Knight or Dame of St Andrew was an award within the Order of Barbados that was part of the national honours system of Barbados when the country was still a realm within the Commonwealth. History The Order of Barbados of the Kingdom of Barbados was instituted by Queen Elizabeth II by letters patent dated 25 July 1980. With Barbados becoming a republic on 30 November 2021, a new Order of Barbados came into force that was established with the Barbados National Honors and Decorations Act 2021 by the Parliament of Barbados on 28 October 2021, and which replaced the former Order of the Kingdom of Barbados. Due to this, the former Order became obsolete and appointments of Knights and Dames of St. Andrew have also ceased. Frank Walcott
Sir Frank Leslie Walcott, KA, OBE (16 September 1916 – 24 February 1999) was a Barbadian trade unionist, politician, ambassador and one of the eleven National Heroes of Barbados. He played a key role in organizing the Barbados labour movement and was a major figure in stimulating participation in the nation's political process. Frank Walcott was born in Saint Peter, and his policeman father died when Walcott was very young. He was raised in Bridgetown, where he attended Wesley Hall Boys' SecondarSchool excelling in mathematics and debate from an early age. Becoming an active unionist in his mid-twenties, Walcott served the Barbados Workers' Union for over fifty years. A knight is a person granted an honorary title of knighthood by a head of state (including the Pope) or representative for service to the monarch, the church or the country, especially in a military capacity. Knighthood finds origins in the Greek ''hippeis'' and '' hoplite'' (ἱππεῖς) and Roman '' eques'' and '' centurion'' of classical antiquity. Fackson Shamenda
Fackson U. Shamenda (born 18 September 1950) is a Zambian trade unionist and politician. Shamenda worked for the postal service, and in 1979 he became the leader of the National Union of Communication Workers. In 1982, he became the regional representative for the Postal, Telegraph and Telephone International, then from 1994 he served as its African representative. In 1991, Shamendra was elected as president of the Zambia Congress of Trade Unions, and also as president of the Southern Africa Trade Union Co-ordination Council. In 2000, he was elected as president of the International Confederation of Free Trade Unions, the only African ever to hold the post. Shamendra was a supporter of the Patriotic Front.
