Roy Riegels
Roy "Wrong Way" Riegels (April 4, 1908 – March 26, 1993) played for the University of California, Berkeley American football, football team from 1927 to 1929. His wrong-way run in the 1929 Rose Bowl is often cited as the worst blunder in the history of college football. That one play overshadowed Riegels' football talents, since he earned first team College Football All-America Team, All-America honors and served as team captain for the Bears in 1929. Clarence Merle "Nibs" Price (April 26, 1889 – January 13, 1968) was a basketball and American football coach. After coaching at San Diego High School, he served as the head football coach at the University of California, Berkeley from 1926 to 1930, compiling the a record of 27–17–3, and the head men's basketball coach at Berkeley from 1924 to 1954, tallying a mark of 453–294. He led the 1946 basketball team to the NCAA Division I men's basketball tournament, Final Four. Succeeding Andy Smith (American football), Andy Smith as Cal's football coach, Price guided the California Golden Bears football, Golden Bears to the 1929 Rose Bowl, a game infamous for Roy Riegels's wrong-way run. The 1928 California Golden Bears football team was an American football team that represented the University of California, Berkeley in the Pacific Coast Conference (PCC) during the 1928 college football season. The 1928 Georgia Tech Golden Tornado football team represented the Georgia Institute of Technology (commonly known as Georgia Tech) during the 1928 Southern Conference football season. The team, which was a member of the Southern Conference (SoCon), was coached by William Alexander in his ninth year as head coach. The 1921 Washington & Jefferson Presidents football team represented the Washington & Jefferson College during the 1921 college football season. Coached by Greasy Neale, went 10–0 in the regular season, defeating Pitt, University of Detroit, and Syracuse. The 7–0 victory over rival Pitt was celebrated with a day of canceled classes and a bonfire with inspirational speeches in front of the Washington County Courthouse.
